I hadn't noticed this; I always move up to industrial sectors myself. With v1.31 it just seems that it takes way longer to do the upgrade and once you do you take a pretty big maintenance cost hit. I'm sure it's eventually worthwhile to make the upgrade but I think it would sure be nice to defer it until a bit later in the game. <TABLE cellpa

Military starbases, with the appropriate modules, enhance the weapons and defense of your ships that are in the influence area of the starbase. It's these enhanced ships that you can use to defend your planets. You can add weapons and defense to Military starbases (or any other kind of starbases) but these only attack and defend when the starbase itself is attacked. I don't use military starbases myself very often but in general the modules enabled by the Starbase Fortification

I didn't seem to notice this in v1.2 and I'm not quite sure how it changed, but I'm wondering if it's worthwhile to build Industrial Sectors in v1.31? Industrial Sectors cost 400 Manufacturing Centers cost 150 Industrial Sectors produce 16 Manufacturing Centers produce 12 Industrial Sectors maintenance 5 Manufacturing Centers maintenance 3 As I said I'm not sure what changed from v1.2, it sure seems like they take way longer to build so I assume the cost went up, but d

OP, did you ctrl n? I have seen after starting my huge masos that the difficulty will reset *rarely* but it has happened when using ctrl n. I've heard about this and may even had one myself. In my case it was a game I was *sure* I selected suicidal but it posted as maso. In that case I really couldn't tell the difference in play and anyway the game p

The difference is that those topics are actually relevant discussion material, since they relate to GC2. Plus, one is already under consideration for GC3, one is possibly coming to GC2 after DA, and the third is just a hopeless idea that just won't happen This topic is so bleak it makes me pine for a good carrier thread. It seems to me that

You only get three characters, but you're free to put them all in the same empire. Actually, that's good because it limits the extent that you can do this. There does seem to be a bit of sleeziness about this. A lot of folks keep more than one character, though mostly I don't think it's explicitly to pump up the empire's score. From the player's point

I see they are over 300K ahead now. How many players they have is not the issue. The reason they pulled away is that Syrrus K posted 272K to a new character (Zorn des K) today. If he had posted this score to his first place character it would only be worth 70K to him and the Orca's. The 272K score all by itself is good for 13th place. I sugge

Is there any particular string we could search for in the debug.err file that would identify that a pathfinding function timeout occured? Is there anything that could be modded to change the setting? I haven't yet seen this issue on v1.31 yet, but this affected me quite a bit on my last v1.2 game. If I get it on v1.31 I'll definitely post my debug.er

I thought about going mad and taking the galaxy....and developing an uber score, just to see if i could, but slashing my wrists with boredom seemed to be entering my head. It's sort of like the few times that I've played Trivial Pursuit. By the time you get to the end of the game you're so sick of it you want anyone to win just to end it. I

Ask yourself, does this post add anything to the community? I wish more of us thought like this. The problem with common sense is that it's not really all that common.

The last game u posted was 189,500 pts 22/09/06, surely this is not it? Yep. That's the one. Did you think it should have been higher or lower? I could have dragged it out a few more years for a higher score, but there's no fun in that. Actually, I maxed out the income at 900K per week as long as I spent all the money each turn. Once I got tired of th

Thanks to SideMancer for performing the analysis. I don't think anyone can doubt the outcome. Just like I've been saying all along. Oh wait, no I didn't, darn. Anyway, this goes to show how poor a subjective opinion can be when it comes to statistics.

When going into debt, I could only go 2000 into debt. This is the game that you posted under Impy? Everything you've said points to a difficulty level of cakewalk but the game clearly posted as suicidal. I think the points part of it makes sense but selecting suicidal and getting cakewalk is definitely a bug from my perspective. If it was me I'd post

Politics and religion are pretty much the most divisive topics you can discuss. Pretty much everyone feels strongly about them one way or another, nothing can ever really be proved, logic doesn’t really apply in either topic and you’re never going to change the opinion of someone that disagrees with you. In fact the more you discuss it the more likely you start to offend people that at the beginning pretty much agreed with you. If your goal is to cause upset and grief there’s no better

Taking it to an obviously absurd extreme to illustrate the point Ah, the reducio ad absurdum debating technique. It's one of my favorites. However, my all time favorite debating technique is "proof by vehement assertion". The points you bring up are

Soooooo, to rephrase the original question... Has anyone found bias in the attack odds generator? The reason for my original post was the observation that it's only natural for people to watch the changing odds and try to press the attack button so as to get the best odds. I think this would be the first thing that everyone would do. It's only after a

So we have 100% and 300% bonuses for everything in the game except approval and influence. I could see how a 300% influence tile could be unbalanced, but a 300% approval tile would be good. There are cases where using a 100% food tile makes sense. I never build my first farm on one though. If later in the game I decide I want a second farm, I'll build the farm on top of whatever I initially built on the 100% food tile, then I'll usually build a stock market on top of the original farm

Bit late unfortunately, but my suggestion would be to test the damage inflicted part against targets with *zero* defence. That way you know *precisely* what the damage roll was for every attack. "Zero" damage inflicted actually involves quite a wide possible range of rolls from the defender and attacker. This is correct and I did think about it a bit

It seems there's a mix of methods in use here. I think there is some opportunity to do better than random by trying to time when you hit the button, but you can as easily get a bit out of sync and do more damage than the possible benefit is worth. For me it’s just too much pressure knowing the lives of your troops are dependent on the outcome. "Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown" W. Sha

I think planet specialization is as useful in v1.31 as it was in v1.2. However, there are some differences. It's pretty clear that the economy got a bit more dificult in v1.31. The thing with planet specialization (other than specialized economic planets) is that when you concentrate research or military production on a single planet, that planet becomes very expensive to support, so if you follow this strategy you need to have a very solid economy, at least 4K bc's per turn net income. The othe

Master U, if you’re lurking and read this I'd like to encourage you to return to the forums and to the game in general. It's much quieter around here without you and that’s not necessarily a good thing. There are those even outside of the empire you founded that miss your youthful exuberance. You made a noticeable contribution to the GalCiv2 community with your mods and the founding of a competitive empire. What happened with your scores was unfortunate no matter what the cause, but there’s no r
