Well, if the game allows simultaneous moves (as SE V does) then multiple computers on a LAN is a huge improvement over hotseat. You don't have to sit around waiting for Joe to do his turn until you can do yours. Simultaneous moves is the way to go with multiplayer when it does come to GC2. I'm sure that multiplayer on GC2 is inevitable but exactly whe

"monotonically" is not a word. The concept of monotonicity is a common one in higher mathematics. You should probably at least google a word before saying it doesn't exist. If you're interested, the Wiki has a reasonable article about monotonic or ordered functions. Wiki definition of

To some extant you can compensate for lack of colonization by using arrays of economic starbases. You can substantially increase your production and research but they don't help increase your economy or population. Population starbases are an interesting concept, but ringworld/dyson sphere's would need a complete revamp of the morale structure to have any real benefit. I prefer a linear tech tree. It gets to be a pain to figure out what techs you need to get a tech you want onc

It is quite a bit more than 1K for me usually, you are giving up quite a bit over the long haul not to keep the bank under 20K. The penalty is actually a percentage of your income, on the order of 20% to 40% dependent on income. The more income the bigger the percentage. In one game if I had spent my money below the 20K level my income was over 900K b

They do, all though for some reason they almost always involve your home planet. Never seen one in over ten games. I only play gigantic abundant all galaxies though, not quite sure how this may impact. Perhaps in smaller galaxies there's not enough colonization going on.

Overall very good advice, but I never use auto explore. I do some exploring with my survey ship but mostly I'm looking for income from anomalies. I mostly explore with my colony ships, using the mini map to determine where to send them. The ctrl-n is a matter of taste. The corner starting position can be an advantage as long as you aren't squeezed in too tightly. Also Meglobob's point about home planet bonuses vs. nearby resources is a good one. <table cellpadding=8 width="95%" align=ce

These icons are very usefull, i just wish they worked right. They did seem to have an overflow problem in v1.2. But in v1.31 they seem to be working great. What rev are you playing?

It's like putting a badger and a groundhog in a box together. Wouldn't the badger just eat the groundhog? Anyway, now that you've seen what it's like there, hopefully you can understand just why we don't want those dis

I used to mostly play the Drath before I decided on the Torians as a better selection because of their free 25% morale bonus. The Altarians invariably ended up good. Early on, I usually played good as well, but it really didn't matter, the Altarians were on me like white on rice. I would have thought that it would be the Drath that held a grudge. do the AI get the

Also, whenever I play the game as the Drath, I am always nutral. They should be good, from what I am told, but they are not. The Drath start out good but not overly so (75 out of 100). It really only takes one or two evil colonization choices to get you to neutral. The Altarians start out as good as you can get at 99, even so it may only be four evil

I use at least the 25% luck bonus myself. Really does seem to make a difference. I've used the 25% luck sometimes and other times not and the only difference that I could tell was with the 25% luck I seemed to get more colonization event decisions. Other than that nothing. What differences have you noticed?

if you have only like 1-2 planets for each race in the game, YOUR going to NEED those bonuses If you have that few planets then you're probably right, but in a larger galaxy there are many forms of good luck. Also Kblore's point on using ctrl-n is a good one. In a larger galaxy when you pass up a setup because of no home planet bonuses you

The 3 x 200 attack would get 3 x (100 - 120) = 0 because damage can't be negative. Actually, the expected value would be -60 so the attacker would have to roll 61 points better than average to get 1 point of damage. Clearly, against a ship that has all three defenses a ship with multiple weapons *always* does worse on average. The t

Hey Mumblefratz- how would you suggest we go about testing your hypothesis? I'm more intrested in the Multi-defense theroy myself- which I can test at the same time. Figured I could kill two birds with one stone. Just to make it clear, nullspaces post convinced me that more than one weapon is *not* a good idea. Multiple defense, I think and conventio

You know, gloating when you win makes you look worse than the people you're attacking. Don't do it. Maturity looks good on you Marcathonas.

It's true that the AI often put these on the strangest planets and sometimes bonus tiles but's it's never worthwhile to destroy them. You do want to make sure that you've built all your super projects that you can before you start conquering planets. It's really nice when you get an extra Hyperion Shrinker or Hyperion Logistics Center. Some people give away the techs that enable these to all of the AI's just so they can get more of them. I would do this as well but I've always played wi

And yes, I will let this one die a less than valiant death I was serious about burning a cd and mailing it to you. It's really no big deal for one person. Click on my name and send me an email with your mailing address and I'd be happy to send it to you when it comes out.

My internet access is limited and I am a huge fan. So how about catering a little towards those like me? Is that too much to ask? I'd be happy to burn a cd for you and mail it to you. If there are a whole bunch of folks in this situation, I certainly couldn't handle that. Perhaps Stardock could offer to provide cd's for folks in this situation. These

Oh, and thanks Mumblefratz, I think, lol. Never had it put that way before though. I think people are missing the point of the post, or maybe I am not wording it right, we'll see. I understand some of your frustration. It does seem like a short time from v1.3 to v1.4, but I personally would much rather have things fixed too soon than too late. It's a

Actually... I'll come right out and say that Stormbringer's opinion is pretty stupid. Evil S can indeed be strident at times (who of us can't), but if you beat him about the head and shoulders enough it turns out he can be a decent bloke.

However, in response to the feedback from the community, we are now making it so that you will still be able to play GC2 minus Dark Avatar even after you install it and buy it. This means that we will be able to update both GC2 and Dark Avatar independantly. Mind you, it's a little more work for us than if we were just updating Dark Avatar, but this way we have the optio
