There are some spells and special abilities that to damage that can not be defended against. I think one of them is boulder-throw or something like that. I'm also pretty sure the drake you can get from the dragon egg random quest has a special ability that ignores defense. So yeah, other than that you'd be invincible. You'll still get one-shot if you rely on it though and don't have a few troops backing you up. Still, that does need to be fixed since I think I've

Huge and humongous aren't implemented - and I'm not sure if they intend them to be eventually. I don't think the would be very playable for many people with the current memory leak issues anyways. If you've heard people talking about them, they may have been comparing Elemental to GalCiv 2. It's also possible they were talking about the beta- but I don't remember maps larger than large from the beta. I didn't play it much since it was a friend who got into the beta a

You should ask them to give you a job as a technical writer. That's the most useful explanation of those techs I've seen between this site and in-game. I have a feeling whoever was writing the in-game descriptions and tool tips initially may have had a lot more to write than on previous projects. If it's the same person or team from GalCiv then I'm sure they're more than capable. Heck, the hints that popped up on loading screens in THAT game taught me more about the

^Correct me if I'm wrong, but they also area good about letting you roll back to previous versions through impulse right? I remember they were with the old stardock launcher, so if there was a version dependent mod you really liked, you could install an older version of the game.
Though I think they are waiting for their native 64bit .exe they are working on, whenever that will be released.
Luckily developing code to be compiled into 32-bit versions and 64-bit versions is slightly less of a nightmare than it was two years ago. Sadly it is only very slightly less of a nightmare than it was two years ago if you didn't get a chance to broadly test both versions of the binaries before releasing one and then the other. My sympathies go ou

^ Keep track of those NPC kids and grandkids. I have a large dynasty on one of my savegames that is rife with inbreeding simply because I did not realize I was marrying one grandkid to another who had defected to another soverign. I suppose that is one way of punishing wayward progeny... but I think the rack or iron maiden would be a little less creepy than accidental inbreeding. Also- anyone know what factors decide whether your grandkids and so on

Further, I tend to wait until I can see the whole game before even reporting bugs... the reason is that when something is still effectively in alpha (no feature lock yet) which this game seems to have been until the last few days before release, bug reporting isn't usually being obsolete by the new code constantly in any case. That's why I favor auto-reporting crashes and asking for optional tester input in terms of describing what they were doing and

I think it depends on how you fight. Magic sovereign is probably really great in auto-calculated battles, but magic damage does not currently scale correctly for shards controlled and misses far too often in tactical battles. That has been aknowledged in the support forum by stardock and they've already got some ideas on how to fix it. If you stick to tactical battles then a brute force champion would be the best choice- as their damage and to-hit will

Well it's reassuring to see that the stardock devs are still as productive with their patching as they ever were with GalCiv 2. I mean even though I think the game feels a little rougher than your release of GalCiv 2 was at first, I can't say it's not fun. I feel pretty confident from my past experience with you guys that these frustrating (though usually not fun-crushing) bugs will be fixed relatively soon so I can start looking forward to an ever refined AI like we all got with

Hah, yeah at first I had just sort of assumed this game followed the same slot mold as every game from pen and paper dungeons and dragons to heroes of might and magic - ie two rings, one amulet, etc. At some point I had a ton of rings in my pack and noticed that while I thought I was clicking the better and that it must have been auto-unequipping the other ring (like it will do with armor), I had actually just been equipping an increasingly large array of amulets and rings.&nbsp

Certain technologies in the "adventuring" category increase your notable level. Unfortunately I never saw a clear indication of which ones actually raised it at the middle levels. Also, the info pop-up you get when you can't access a notable location is cut off for me right where it is about to explain how to raise it. I've mostly figured it out, but that was VERY frustrating at first. It was like "You can raise your level by" followed by the end of the text box.&nbs

First let me say that this stopgap of yours has worked great for me so far. Thanks for posting it- I was trying to find a way to force Win 7 to do this by clicking through every option menu and system tool I could find but I've never had to do it before and I could not remember the a close-enough term to produce useful google search results when looking it up. Now I'm not saying the lawyers yelling at the forum staff (or their bosses yelling at them) would be reas

I like the silent approval you've been given for this. They can't officially say they approve of you posting a modified exe file for their game because it would give their lawyers brain hemorrhages and heart attacks. On the other hand they seem to be pretending not to notice this post until they come up with a more permanent official solution.
