Darn little bugger - Venom Volume BTW - doesn't leave a DeskX icon in the tray. It has one of it's own. Same as the task manager,C:\ blah\blah\blah\dxwidget.exe -loadwidget:C:\blah\blah\blah\Venom Volume.exe Delete its furry little... cache, and there it is. I was getting tired of the volume control that comes from Stardock. It's not as responsive. Perhaps this might not have been as much of a problem if Windows still had the move command (or I could r

When after a computer crash one of the DesktopX gadgets appears to be loading off-screen someplace? The others are running fine, just this one disappeared. It says it is loaded and running, but I don't see it.

Now my husband's computer has the same symptoms. At least his has an excuse - six years in the middle east where water is just a memory for a guy from the PNW. Anyone know if there is a bug going around? These computers been running AVG and getting scanned regularly. Monday, ‎July ‎13, ‎2009, ‏‎20:20:08 That's when I created the directory the FIRST time I installed it. I installed it again 3/31/2010, 17:07:53. I can't remember why, I only

The machine has.... it came with Windows Vista Pro (or whatever it was back then) I keep adding memory and giving it a new system. This Windows 7 I got as soon as it was officially released. I didn't get in on the public beta. I've got 8 on the laptop whose drive I think I will steal. I'd like to buy a new one but have to do with what I have. I hate Windows 8 BTW and I will probably never buy it. As far as back from the future is concerned... Wouldn't yo

It's Win 7 x64 that has been totally stable for at least 6 years. Any problems I created by messing with it. I've been manually backing up onto two 500gb externals - duplicates. I had one I was using then got a nifty-slick new external so I'm using them both. Most of what they have are photos, downloads (why, I have no idea) and documents. Plus a little email (Pegasus Mail for Windows) I save what I can't replace. If I ever had a fire I could grab one and have all my photos fo

Poor laptop. I'm not sure what I did but with every restart it runs CHKDSK and finds more things to correct. Speedfan tells me that the Current Pending Sector Count and Uncorrectable Sector Count are pegged - something about electrical failure (huh?) I need to move everything to a different drive. When I looked at all the clone program choices my eyes crossed. I already have 50 year old eyes that have trouble seeing. I'll deep format the current drive and put it into the spare, which

100 degrees? is that Celsius or Fahrenheit? I get emotional if mine gets above 70C and try to keep it below 50C. Especially when I game. You will find that the cooler it is, the faster it will run in gaming. I prop mine up when on the road ($1 wire mesh in-basket) and have the mother of all cooling platforms at home (starting to show its age - it doesn't cool the whole room any more) My other game crasher was when I had a video card go bad (note, hot temps will cause a video c

I think I might have found it! It is a little bit of a software called Yawcam. It had a light foot print and even does a few things more than WebCam32. Free, has it's own http server, lots of things to mess with. I had it up and running in about 3 minutes. http://www.yawcam.com Seems good so far. See: http://71.94.241.102:8081 (don't laugh, I use it to check on the cars and yard when I am out o

In the great debate on registry cleaners (a *must* read if you haven't already) it was overheard that it is more reliable to back-up one's system then use a restore point. (for more reasons than crappy register cleaners) What do you use? Sync or Back-up or both? and which program(s) do you use to do it? I use an ancient copy of SyncToy. I don't want to sync or back up ALL my files, I like the ability to back up only those that are not

The games I play (WoW, EQII, LOTRO) don't have 64-bit versions. If I was playing one that was, then I would probably do so based on the performance and processing differences I have seen with my other software. I think that the success of the software depends on its design and the architecture of the machine. Just because it works well on one machine doesn't mean it will work well on another with similar configuration. This has been evidenced for me with WoW and especially EQII. In th

SasCam. It is wonderful to install and easy to use, but I need just a little more stuff like time stamp and choose the port. I also don't like that if you click the video anyplace it takes you to the home site with is covered with adult-only links. Not good for a family friendly web system. I can't stand the dark pink with black writing either - ugg. I wish I knew enough about skinning apps to give that one a face lift.

Anyone have a recommendation for a low-maintenance web cam server that does live streaming? Needs to run on a Windows XP Pro with 1GB memory. I've used WebCam32 for years but it seems the Windows updates have finally rendered it obsolete. What I have tried so far are either too fat or too expensive. I tried a really cool one yesterday called AbelCam but it plunged the poor, old desktop into nearly a dead stop and when I used Task Manager to kill the program the computer went blue screen (

I used to use MG Shareware's Screen Saver Builder (commercial version) but they no longer have it. Now I'm using Screen Saver Factory 5 which is nearly identical (really identical) but has more of the bells and whistles you like when doing up a branded screen saver. Unfortunately, the user license generator for one doesn't work with the other, so I'm stuck making new savers for the old ones. When I get done with my book I'll probably finish that and put them in (rose

Does Stardock have a screen saver creator or do people use their own. I have a nice commercial licensed SS builder and was wondering if that would work. It's not fancy but works well. I do wonder how someone got snows while using it. What are some of the favorites? I wrote this earlier using Windows 8. The more I use it, the more I hate it. Obviously it didn't make it to the forums.

I can't seem to see a Theme Manager forum. Is the software discontinued? If so, what replaced it? Anyway. Theme Manager depends on several other programs to skin all the parts of the computer. Mine says that it doesn't have LogonStudio. It's been reinstalled multiple times. The version has been changed once. But I cannot get Theme Manager to find it when skinning. A search of the internet shows that this is not a new problem, but nobody offers a working solu

The task bar just treats them like regular windows. If they are rolled up they unroll to do any of the three things listed. I think that @Uvah might be right - it might be a function of the skin. Now I wonder if I might have the skins I used back then (and if they still work) The old computer I use as a server and web cam and soon, I hope, a weather server.

not sure I explained it right, WindowBlinds have a feature that you can set up that you click (right, double) and it minimizes the window to its title bar. (rolls up) Years ago, there was a menu on the right hand side next to the minimize icon that said tile (and some other things) So, instead of having all these long, skinny strips horizontal across your screen, you have a nice little stack. It was a nice way to mange the bars and you didn't loose them as often.

Bah, no joy. The WB menu isn't in the choices for double-click or right-click (WB 7) Too back about OD, I think that would be a great feature to have single icons all over the place to click on (show off icons too) Unless perhaps it is part of another program.

OK, gazillion years ago I loved WindowBlinds to death. I seem to remember a right click menu or something that had one of the options to cascade or stack the closed titlebars. HELP! Please tell me I'm not crazy and how to do that with today's ultra-modern, prettier-than-I-remember-it, WindowBlinds. While I got your attention, is there a way to freely move a dock in object dock? (rather than in and out from whichever side it's on) The tabs dock lets you

Sensor dust. The sensor is the mirror that is the thing that helps record the picture. There are a couple mirrors, but the sensor is the last and most important mirror-looking thing is the sensor (really isn't a mirror) When they get dirt on them you usually don't notice with photos shot at F10 or lower. If you crank the thing up past F20 you can see every sneeze. So... Mr. Eagle Eyes spied a sneeze. The camera, just in the two weeks, finally got its sensor cleaned. I shot three

Sharp eyes you. Once you outlined it I knew exactly what it was. It wasn't until a month ago that I learned about dirty sensors. So, now I have gotten rid of all the smudges except one that keeps moving around. I can fix the ones that are there. I didn't think I had shot it over F10. (photo was shot 2007)

List has three things so far - Tool tip colors. The skin I am using has light tan on beige tool tip bubble text for some items. Not good for a blind person. I can only see it if I mouse over it. The program part of the start menu. You know, the left side of the panel you get when you click "All Programs" on the start menu. Everything else has wonderful colors and font sizes. I can't for the life of me find the place to change that font, size, background, whatever
