I seem to have a recurring problem that when I switch windows I loose the mouse. It's OK when I have to go to that lovely start screen (I always forget what it is called) then I switch to the other monitor and I'm back to normal (?) Today I am trying to get an OCX to register that removing ThemeManager took out. Since it is a DX gadget that broke, I figure since it is DX it should still be there - and it is. Registering don't work, so I try reinstall. Reboot tells me that I

Long nasty story about my main laptop quitting. Did anyone suggest the "hosts" file? This wonderful bit of text can easily tell your computer that if you type in one thing you really mean the other. Great fun to tamper with someone's host file and do just that. There are some scripts that will do that also. If they do the internet related things will always be going to whichever site they are told. It won't matter which browser. Now, you might still have the virus/script but at least you could get on the internet. </p
YAY, I got two karma. I guess that pays back what I thought I gave a week ago. It does work to click the little hand that says something like "give karma" even when you don't have any? [e digicons][/e]

I wish it would say just what. I think the best solution would be to replace my crabby old hard drive before it retires on it's own. I have another 500, but it is part of a pair that I mirror backups on. Hate to loose the redundancy, but hate to use the use of the laptop too. On the reboot after running the scan then checkdisk ran. It didn't find as much as last time (which looked like the drive had been dropped) but it found a few things and corrected it all. I wonder i
OK, you're going to kill me. This is about the same as waving one's underwear in the wind. I made a HijakThis log.. The new software crashed as the same (event entry upon request) Scan found something it fixed and something it didn't. But it didn't tell me what it was. The comment was vague, something like "I found something wrong and I found something I couldn't fix. Restart and I'll fix it" Here it is {{ blush }} Feel free to tell me what to kill.&nbs
Did the download the day I wrote this. Was one of the first things I tried.
I never had time or desire to try it. I has just been one of those things sitting there and I finally got tired of the Windows noises and decided to try some packages I got. Icon Packager is such fun, I was looking forward to the same with sounds. Nope, moving things don't work. Got a message something like, "Windows is looking for a solution" then it was gone. No solution like it usually does. Has a fatal error in the App Log with nothing I can figure out (
It's me again. This conversation reminds me of how hard my town is on new restaurants. It's not a small town, but not a large town either (15,000) We get a new restaurant in town (not very often) and everyone goes. First few days the food is really good and then the poor restaurant blows it (as happens in nearly every service start-up) So, the bunch of folks who go that day expect the same great service/food as what as been reported. It doesn't matter if they fix it the very next
I haven't been able to get it to work. Installed it, clicked it, and it dies of an error (one of those lovely windows that say your program died but doesn't say why) I have Win 7 x64 with 6GB RAM and plenty disk space. Says that it works on Win 7. I have unistalled and reinstalled twice now, the same gremlin holds up the sign saying it is dead. Thoughts, ideas? Don't tell me to pay off the gremlins, I don't like what they are charging.
OK, I tried this. Silly thing only recognizes the first number. Period. I guess I'll pester folks on the other list to see if I can edit it from bitmap color to some other type. It's been nearly 20 years since I have done more than simple programing. We did Pascal...
Got an answer on the other forum. After staring at it then reading the thread he linked I am almost understanding. It has to do with the skin uses a bit mapped background. The number is derived by some type of strange mathematical process that uses the result to put into the xml and produces a color. That in mind I'm going to try it and see what happens. If anyone is interested in calculations to float a space ship: <a href="http://www.rainlendar.net/cms
It is the new type - scripts and xml. Of course, XML is kinda like HTML. It was Rainy who told me I could just rename it to zip to edit it. The color thing mystifies me. I'm not that familiar with xml, and I don't know where the limitation comes from. I think it was a static value, so I can't follow the code past that.
I posted in Rainlendar forum, but it doesn't look very active. So I thought I would post here as well (I hope you don't mind) I'm picking apart and customizing the Chromophore skin (one of Rainy's, he said I could) I want to have some way to customize the background color on the fly. So I dig around and find where it is set. The colors are 0.0 through 0.9 (two decimals give a margin of hue change) So, I have the colors of the rainbow and nothing else. W
Buttons right - buttons left. The WB skin I'm using ATM has Style 1 - Buttons Left, Style 2 - Buttons Right. These are the Min-Max-Close buttons. WindowFX 4 is and odd bird. Although it doesn't skin anything, it does things to windows and GUI that are not natural. (didn't our parents tell us about things like that?) Skins and programs like that should carry warning labels, "Objects in the mirror.." Oops, wrong label :) "Beware, programs (skins) like
WB has to be TSR. I've been having fun settling the arguments between WB and WinFX. The two special actions actually get along. I just hold the right mouse a little longer to spawn the WinFX menu. It does, however, do weird things when I save settings. WB rolls right up when I tell it to save a window size.
Anyone using PI for their crafting? I used it all the time for 2D stuff like crafting and things for the web pages I build. Now I want to start learning the more fancy stuff like paper curls and scrolls and folders. Conceptualizing those layers is difficult. I finally used a tutorial and trial and error a test-tube thing, but it took about 8 hours all together and still looks rough. So, anyone use PI or can point me to a tutorial that is so heavily PS or GIMP that I can't fo

I use right click for my roll up. In WB you can choose what you want for double and right click. Big long list. As for programs with clear title bars in Aero mode. That would be all of them. Anything that uses .exe to start. Windows are fine. If I cranked the opacity really high, I could just see the title bar. Nothing I did would let the roll up work. Well, the default Aero themes that came with Window work - after I turn back on a service called "usxms" I checked the log and this was the message, "The Desktop Window Manager was unable to start because a composited theme is not in use" What the? I can't think of anything I've added to the machine, but there was a bunch I uninstalled. I don't see how outdated programs have to do with anything. Besides, that was hours before the crash. My alter-ego works fine, but thi
How's that for a name. I think my Aero is goofed up, but I'm not sure. I vaguely remember having this happen before. I loaded a skin that didn't let me roll up the windows by clicking the title bar. So I looked all over in editor to try to find where to adjust it. I actually found it - once - but the adjusting I did never worked. I couldn't for the life of me find it again. In the midst of all my cussing and theme tweaking the desktop crashed and W
