5. And don’t worry, even when we believe the game is ready for release, there will still be plenty of people arguing that we “rushed it”. So you can rest assured that there will never be unanimous agreement on when it’s “done”.
With all respects, by looking to all promising aspects and/or functionalities this game should have and what is presently implemented, I do not see how you
I pre-ordered Elemental in January and I just downloaded the Beta 1G. Check your emails, you should have received one with your serial for Elemental. Just need to register it with Impulse and that's it, you are able to download it.
Frogboy, Can this book be classified as "dark fantasy" type (in fact I hope so!)? Is there any plan to write, by yourself or others, more books based on Elemental? And, the 1st time you though of elemental world, it was for the book or the game? In other words, the game get the book background, or the book extends game background? Thanks and I wish you the same success with this book than you have with your software and games.
In case there is a road upgrade mechanism from trail to "highway", level upgrade should be limited by city level. The upgrade to the highest type of road should only be available on a road between 2 level 5 cities. A kind of matrix on city sizes could be set or a rule like Max road level = Min city level between city A and B. My 2 cents. Edit: changed rule example.
It runs on DOS! [e digicons][/e] [e digicons][/e] And I was younger!!
As a powerful sovereign, could we imagine he can manipulate his child genetic code and influences from which parent line he inherits the most? Some limits should be there, you cannot inherit from on side only, like you cannot go below 20% from one parent, and this is just a influence, not a strict repartition.
Comebacks should be only possible for players still in the game (aka with real chances of victory). One hopeless player shouldn't get by chance or miracle they ways to come back and win the game. If the player didn't play well and/or was soundly beaten by other, "magical" victories no thanks. (Mega Events are exceptions due to their own nature)
Agree. And if the one who comes back gains some "bonus" in order to help hi
Something as lbgsloan said. For some titles, I think EA, Ubisoft or others are ready to lose PC gamers in regards how many more money they will get with console versions, by squeezing console player as much as possible, extracting any penny. Look at Modern Warfare 2. PC gamers are upset, but probably more than 90% of MW2 sales comes from consoles and look how much $ they got!! Look how most games are done from major publisher: console games ported to PC... I hope
But, for who pre-ordered after Beta1 closing date, they will be able to get beta2, aren't they? And, I know it can be postpone, but as today, it should be in February, right?
Stardock and Ubisoft will be a GDC 2010. It would be so good if Frogboy could persuade Ubisoft, and others, to follow his Gamer's Bill of Rights 1) Gamers shall have the right to return games that don't work with their computers for a full refund. 2) Gamers shall have the right to demand that games be released in a finished state. 3) Gamers shall have the right to expect meaningful updates after a game's release. 4) Gamers shall have the right to demand th
The good: no more intrusive and hidden "software/driver./..." installed without your consent. The bad: cannot play offline. period. As Frogboy said, paying users should be rewarded instead of "punished" and treated by default as a pirate and, DRM does not stop the piracy or recover any "lost" sales. Someone who doesn't want paying for a game, will pirate it or gives up, but will never pay. A game protected on a serial number does not need any Internet access, but
But really, is this such a big performance gain to say that if someone is not putting it he has forgotten about performance?
It depends on the application. If you run on this "case" some few time, no. If you may need to add thousands of elements or add into a new one very often, yes, you may see the difference.
Usually the most important optimizations come from de
I suspect that I'm not the only person who has pre-ordered Elemental who still plays Master of Magic and LOVES IT to this very day! It's all about the gameplay, as far as I'm concerned. Sure, graphics and sound effects and a nifty soundtrack are nice... But give me rock solid gameplay and replayability and I'll play your game for decades.
+1
Yes you're right. Before optimizing you have to measure and figure out what to optimize. My point about giving a size is when knowing how many items will be inserted (forgot to specify it, my bad), like after getting back some data from a database. So at that time you may initialize the dictionary with the size of the query result, before inserting items. It's simple, efficient and does not take 1 month to measure it or to implement.[e digicons]:)[/e] So why wait until
Thanks... Thanks... Thanks.... I'm working in software development in industrial environment (C#) and you may not believe how many "young" developers forgot this important point: performance! They could talk for hours about last Microsoft techs, but almost doesn't know , for example, that giving a size when initializing a dictionary divide the time to add elements in it by 2... Yes, readability is important, but if no one uses your soft, who will really read the code?
Is this Beta will be available to people who pre-ordered the game after the 1st october date? Of course, knowing that Beta will not be fun, doesn't have the full graphical engine, ... it seems, there is a lot a people loving playing not funny game! [e digicons]|-)[/e]
