I am running Vista 64bit and started trying to run Elemental as an Administrator (right click icon -> run as Administrator) and now I can save and load my saved games just fine. Before that, it would crash every time. Not sure if this will work for everyone, but it seems to be working now for me.

That was classic! It all felt strangely familiar when I first fired it up last night :). I just couldn't remember what Ultima intro it was most like, though. Brought back great memories of when I first played those way back in the day when they were released. Well done, Stardock!
However, if the player wants to quickly spam out a bunch of cities (which is a typical strategy in 4X games) it will come at a very high cost.
Even though it may be a little restricting, it is good to see this being balanced more than in some previous games. As much as I loved Gal Civ II and Civ IV, success seemed to depend a lot on how well you "land/planet" grabbed in the early game. I found myself sometimes re-starting
I finally broke down and upgraded my computer :). I decided to give Vista 64bit a shot and have the new Core i7 processor with corresponding x58 MB and triple channel DDR3 memory (6GB total). Now I should be all ready to play the huge maps whenever I can get in the beta :). The months are actually flying by... maybe only 4 months to go! I can't wait.
Yeah, Fantasy General was great back in the day... probably still is quite a bit of fun. I think I still have the fairly thick strategy guide for that as I came across it while I was browsing through my old computer books recently. There was a lot of strategy and info I learned from that :). I still don't think I ever quite completed it, though.
Sounds like a good idea here, also. What caught my attention was the dungeon with creatures, treasure, and a dungeon level. I am wondering if that will be implemented similar to how it was done in the Warlords series where if you defeated the defenders you would receive a random treasure like troops, money, mana? I always enjoyed having extra things like that to discover and battle as it breaks up the tedium and gives you some little extras to enjoy. However it wor
Faugh, if this game's audience turns out to be even roughly similar to the one for GalCiv2, there will be plenty of us far older than you twenty-somethings. If you want to see some interesting anecodtal data about age and interest in a 4X game, read the How old are you thread at GC2.
Heheh, no kidding. I think the first computer game I ever purchased by myself was by shelling out over $60 for Ultima III wh
Just ordered yesterday and really looking forward to this. These style games are easily my favorite and it is really cool that Stardock is giving us the opportunity to get in the beta so early. I have always wanted to do that on a title that interests me. Now, I just need to find the time in a busy life to keep up with it :).
Add another "thumbs-up" from me for the artwork so far. I actually have liked the screenshots I have seen so far and the detailed example above is even more impressive. I have been going back through older games trying to figure out which ones I want to play before beta starts and while trying Age of Wonders again, I just can't get used to everything being so "busy" and hard to see what is going on in them on the world map. They are very pretty and colorful, but hard to qu
