Could you put a small fence on all four sides that keeps units out? Or what is the code for the city siege map center square that blocks troops? I recall that SD had to fix them after their first iteration to keep troops from walking through them... Love that all of you awesome modder types are brainstorming this thing together!!

Thanks for working on this, the good/evil quests are a great game mechanic.
Don't nerf beastmaster, random maps already mean you could be far away from any tamable beasts. And if you are playing without reloading saves, your young beastmaster will spend at least a few days in a city healing up and regaining lost mana. Sometimes more than once! And the utility of the trait diminishes during the course of the game, so it is a great early pick, but not as powerful as a mage or warlord in the late game. Edit: and if you
The modding features have given this game a lifespan that it wouldn't otherwise have. Better/more accessible modding tools and spell/quest/map editors would ensure your game was played for a decade. Otherwise all the other points in this thread are well-taken. The Sov and faction creation are particularly fun. Edit: And the fact the enemy sovs can be made your vassals is awesome!

Why would I want the Scythe of the Void, anyway? The -100 xp makes it useless imo... If I use Ascian's collar on Ongr, I would still like him to level up, and even more so my heroes/henchmen. Many people have had the frustration of that squishy unit or defenseless noblewoman getting put in the front rank. Can the game be tweaked to either have the 9 army slots correspond to front, middle and rear ranks or can we get a few basic formations in the army management screen that we can slot our troops into like HoMM3? This could even be a Commander special ability if you want; or basic formations only for low-level heroes and fancier ones for higher ups. &nb
Very cool idea, tjashen. Probably tricky to mod some aspects but I had one thought to add... Could you have the heroes auto-cast retinues at the start of combat to get around the current 9 unit per stack cap? Then a mage character could really be different than a defender as the mage would summon a host of phantom warriors to shield him. A defender would summon a phalanx of spearmen units already dug into foxholes/palisades on the front line

Hi DsRaider, A few notes thus far: I have seen better stacks in general. Still see un-escorted pioneers. And Karavox was adventuring with only one 4-man group of swordsmen at one point. But overall better. City building looks good, the AI cities I've conquered all had at least one essence slot, a big improvement over the vanilla AI. I didn't see them early on, but during my brief war with Kraxis, he was building units in his cities, not
I am playing a game now... Large map, hard AI against 11 sovs. Ceresa has become my vassal after Kraxis did all of the dirty work of taking all but one of her cities. One of the other kingdoms was defeated (never met). I am not at war with anyone else atm... I will let you know what I encounter. Although I just bumped up to hard from challenging so I might not be the best judge. The spider auto-cast idea is brilliant.

Darn it! I went back in to the game and you are 100% correct, Primal!! I have seen it on a crystal quarry in 1.4 though... Interestingly, the Altar AI has two cities like this with unused Essence slots in my current all Challenging AI game. And he has 400+ mana in the bank atm...
