I had fleets and such, it just didn't produce much in the way of major battles. I guess I need to play with ship design. Can you plan with the ship designer and save ships to use in any game, or are they only made and used 'in game'? Where is the wiki? Thanks

I bought this game several months ago and played about 3 solo games. I never got into the campaign part (maybe I will soon). Anyway I stopped playing for a few reasons. One was it would take about a week of playing to finish even a small galaxy. It seemed most of my time was spent clicking the end turn button and waiting on the next tech I would research. Is it possible to start a game with about a third of the techs already in place? I really wouldn't care if the others races had them also, I think it would just kind of speed up the initial play some. For example rather than playing for 5 hours before I can build a battleship I can build them right away (once I get production going).
I really wanted to stay with the pre-build ships for a while. I figured I'd end up making some ship with all weapons but not enough engine, no shields, etc. and cost me a lot of money in the long run. Well I bought this game 2 days ago at GameStop. It was the only copy they had. It was not the 'collectors' edition (at the time I didn't know there was a collectors edition). I must say that I can't believe the 'regular' game does not have a tech chart in the box. I'm having a terrible time managing my techs to research, or even determining what to research. Been playing for 2 days now and I have 2 questions on ships. Once a ship has been created, is it updated as tech is increased. I had some pirates in my space and sent 2 fleets to meet them. One fleet (older ships) were blow away doing little damage. The other fleet actually took out the ships with little damage taken. Did the newer ships have better techs and that's why they succeeded? Could the older ships have been updated?

Well thanks for your suggestions. I too have never seen this before and I play all my games using the headphones. I figure it must be a PC setting, but that would make more sense if none of the game could be heard with the headphones. It's weird that the game's tutorial can be heard with both the speakers and headphones and the gameplay can only be heard on the speakers.
Really? I could have sworn that one the other races was moving a base around. I just assumed I didn't have the right tech.

The game tutorial works fine, I turn the speakers off, the headphones on, and I hear everything fine. However, when I start a game I can't hear anything in my headphones, but the speakers will work (once I turn them back on
