Another undocumented change: Researching the Economics tech grants roads to existing outposts as well as newly placed ones. I've also noted that the new pathfinding AI does not properly take roads into account, opting for straight line paths when much faster indirect routes are available.

The mana cost of enchantments on champion units is now being deducted from your mana pool at the end of the turn rather than being taken from your mana income at the beginning of the turn. The result is that if you spend all of your mana you go mana-deficient and the enchantments start dropping off, rather than the previous behavior of your enchantments being maintained and your available mana pool being smaller the next turn. It's not documented so I'm not sure if this
Again, on the 3.0 beta, Vetrar wandered out of his wasteland and I defeated him inside my territory. The quest to defeat him did not complete, and I am now not able to build anything inside his wasteland. Depends on how you define major city. The Dragon Lance world has at least a dozen good sized cities, and more if you consider smaller but important race-specific areas like Kendermore or Mt. Nevermind. There are also many smaller towns and villages scattered all over.

I sent a PM to Frogboy about it even before I got the game installed last night. I assumed it wasn't worth a full topic (and the dangers inherent to any EULA topic) to point out. But since it's out there, may I suggest a company trip to the parking lot and assaulting the legal department with day old bagels? It does't have to be linked to this issue either, make it a monthy event.[e digicons]:D[/e]

Elemental shouldn't be a petri dish for RTS features. This sort of thing would be useless for a 4x turn based game and if they want to test it, test it on a game in beta that would actually use it. It's completely unnecessary for a game like Elemental. It's a turn based game. Turn based games are the only games I've played frequently where someone can loose their connection and return to the game without so much as a beat missed and no one was the wiser except your

If I'm understanding their mechanics correctly, the balance is that while the channeler is the source of essence, the empire he manages will be the source of the mana he needs to use that essense. A channeler that goes Gandalf and starts wading into his enemies risks having his empire taken behind him, and running out of gas before he gets to the enemy capital.

We will be, eventually. From what I understand of their plan, it's going to be set up much the way the TA beta was. Each week or two a new beta version will introduce a new feature, race, etc so that the testers are pretty much forced to investigate a wide range of content and mechanics, rather than focusing totally on their favorite part of the game. To paraphrase the "welcome to hell" topic, don't expect the beta to be fun at any given point. You're supposed to be wringing the hell

This isn't unique to this aspect of the game, but in topics covering many areas of the game, people are setting themselves up for some serious disappointment. Everyone seems to want their own particular interest area to be an incredibly deep and involved game in it's own right, and it's just not going to happen.

Another issue that needs addressing: assuming that the player has a choice of male and female channelers, how do we balance out the production of heirs? What prevents a male channeler from zerg rushing, while the female channeler has heir production limited by biology? Even if she's suffering from swollen ankle syndrome every moment of her life, she can't keep up reproductively.
One thing I would like to see is a percent cost for some spells, as opposed to jsut numbers. Also variable costs where you can choose the limitations on the spell and affect its other stats.
That would be quite the feature. Instead of casting one huge spell (a wall of fire, maybe) you can cast a lesser version of it several times for roughly the same cost. Lesser versions should be weaker, do less damage, be easier to dispell,

It could work, especially in big games where getting many techs in a particular order or speed doesn't matter that much. Unlike tiny maps, where if you don't have some specific techs very early you're screwed. The first few dozen turns you keep research wide open to build a decent base of beginning tech. It will be random, but we have to assume you won't get 30 consecutive agriculture techs and no weapons, or vice versa. then once you start meeting the neighbors, seeing the land aroun
