Except that Mickey Mouse has a whole lot of protection on it that isn't on the Star Control property. And I also would say that they did not remake Star Control 2. It's in the same family, and uses similar design concepts, but it isn't the same game. And I'm sure Stardock will press that point very hard if this makes it to court. And yes, I 100% agree that this wouldn't have gotten so out of hand if the parties hadn't gotten frustrated with
Hollow Man
Except mechanics are not copyrightable, or else Star Control 1 and 2 could be held liable for stealing its look and feel from Spacewar! So if mechanics/look/feel is the basis for Fred and Paul's claim, they're being very hypocritical. No one is claiming that Stardock hasn't made a game is that is very much like Star Control . But many of are saying this isn't an actionable offense.
That letter...I was always on Brad's side, but now I know why his confidence is so high. Design/idea/concept/format/layout is 100% what Toys For Bob is pointing out with the chart they recently released. None of it, based on this letter from the copyright office to their lawyer, is basis for a claim. If it was, then Blizzard could've been sued for Warcraft being too much like Dune II all those years ago, and Microprose could've put a claim in against Brad for <e
Sooooooo.. to loop another story worth such incredibly magical twists of fate; Firaxis' (Jake Solomon) & Julian Gollop's (goes all the way back to 1994 Microprose) mutually preferred X-Com titles franchise. Not a single LAW gambit in sight, none ever since either. Every minds are still absolutely focused on their own business with full respect towards each other.

Valve is currently not selling the game, but keys can still be activated there, and you can download and run it just fine.
Brad was pretty transparent regarding the situation when I spoke to him through Twitter yesterday. As near as I can tell by my own research plus playing about 20 hours of Star Control: Origins , the only thing that may be problematic are references to Zoq-Fot-Pik and the Precursors. There's no art, but I don't know if the names and the "personalities" of those aliens are protected by the rights that Fred and Paul have (from my point of view, the courts can decide that). The O
It sounds like you have the base game and expansions, so you'll need to contact support. -HM
But the reply I got Stardock Customer care: "I'm not seeing any expansions for GC2 on your account. Just the base game. Unfortunately I wouldn't be able to upgrade you to the Ultimate Edition. If you had the expansions, I'd be able to though." I admit that I was at first disappointed that Stardock did not make a point of ensuring us old SDC/Impulse customers had instant access to the patch. But giving me a free Steam key within a few days is a nice compromise. Rather than be upset, just put in a ticket, and I'm sure they'll help once they're back from the holiday. Or if you're really, REALLY impatient to play it right NOW, at only $4 on Steam via the holiday sale, that's a great deal. -HM</
It sounds like you're somehow only running the original GalCiv2, and not the executable for Arnor. Find the GC2TwilightOfTheArnor.exe file (it's in the Galactic Civilizations II - Ultimate Edition\Twilight folder) and run that. -HM
Wow they created a second version of the game instead of overwriting it. That was the reason it wasn't changed. Qfolder uestion what happens if I delete the 2.04 folder, and keep the 2.20 that just says Galactic civilizations 2 2,20. I know the one that doesn't say ultimate is the patch. I'm worried if I delete the Ultimate folder it will mess up my game I have two versions of the game one is 2.042 the other is 2.20. Tw
Just wanted to let everyone reading that Stardock granted me a Steam key for Ultimate (due to me owning the GalCiv2 base game and its two expansions). I really appreciate it, and wish you guys the best during the holidays. Take care, -HM
Hey Derek, I appreciate it. I put in a support ticket yesterday since I have the separate versions, and have yet to hear back. Can someone check on this please? -HM
Because that's another option if you don't want to wait for the update. [e digicons]:)[/e]
I put in a ticket...because I'm curious to see what will happen! -HM
The update to your game in your Stardock account will be coming sometime this week.
Then why did The_Gear say to put in a ticket to your support system? -HM

Kryo, can you please confirm this will be updated for both Ultimate and those who bought the expansions separately? -HM
Thanks Brad...and please make sure it's for both the Ultimate Edition and those of us that bought the pieces separately, -HM
I didn't even get an email. For those that got it, do you have the Ultimate Edition (I bought all the pieces separately)? -HM
Please Stardock; don't leave your fans that have been with you since GalCiv2 was first released hanging. Tell us, "We're working on it" or "You guys ARE being left behind...buy the Steam version." Ignoring us is poor customer service. They'd solve this problem easily by just giving us a Steam key. They know everyone that owns the game and expansions, so get some programmer to whip up a script that determines that, then put a Steam key for Ultimate in our account. I know...
Those ways won't get us the game through Steam through an actual Steam key, which right now appears to be the only way to get the update. Yeah, it's been on good Steam sales before, but since GalCiv2 was one of the games that continued to work well on modern computers, I never felt the need to buy it again. I have faith though that Stardock will come through for us. They know they have tons of old customers who bought the game when they were against DRM solutions
I bought this game, and all the expansions, directly from Stardock when they came out. Thus all the updates were originally done through Stardock Central or Impulse. When I login to my account at Stardock.com, I can download 1.53, 2.01 (Dark Avatar), and 2.04 (Arnor). How do I get the update since my copy isn't the packaged "Ultimate" version, or the Steam one? My game shouldn't be left behind either! -HM
At this point, I just wonder do I have to play Elemental Fallen Enchantress (FE) first, then LH, or is FE contained in LH? Yeah, I am confused.
Just play LH. The tweaks they made to it over FE are generally embraced by the community. So the only thing missing is FE's scenerio, but even that is in the 1.4 beta patch, which you can opt in to via Steam (or just wait until it's officially released): <a hre
