To estimate the cost of a building, could you multiply your Social production by the number of weeks to completion? If you're producing twenty points of social a week and the queue says a building will take ten weeks, would it be reasonable to say the building is worth 200bc? Of course this would only apply if you've just selected a building for construction.

I've never tried this, but I'm assuming you could bulid spin control centers on several worlds and park your massive fleets in orbit. If it makes you suddenly seem far more powerful than you really are, they might be willing to cease fire.

I think it's important to clarify that having one point of defense on a ship will always yield a reduction in damage by one, regardless of the defense type. Sub-optimal defense types operate at the square root of their value. The square root of one is one, so having that single point in any defense type might be a good investment even if you choose a primarily offensive strategy. Maybe just research into that one defense type until it's as compac
