Spartan: That's weird if your posts are getting deleted, but I've definatly seen your approval of the style (and greatly appreciate it). It's funny 'cause our style guide has both Howe and Lee as prominant inspiration (with Mucha inspiring the 'classy graphical pen with realistic shapes' feel). But we'll save a journal to REALLY talk about artistic inspiration.
I knew it!!! Mucha is the bomb. His style is

It would be interesting to have randomly opening and closing "gates of oblivion" that pop up in different places that offered extremely dangerous opponents with ample reward for taking up the challenge to fight them. It would be neat that if you go through the gate and if it randomly closes while you are on the other side, you will find a way back before you die, which should be an instant game over and that way back my be anywhere on the world when the new gate opens.

It looks like SD is going for the classic LoTR feel for this and I that is a good thing especially since retro gaming is a hot thing and more importantly because the gamer is likely well into their 30 now and will have lots of memories of the time of tabletop still in their heads with lots of positive recollections associated with them. Never under estimate the effects of forgotten youth with weekends of never-ending fun and nostalgia that can trigger memories with visual stimulation. I sugge
I think there should also be neutral units/races, I just don't want to see something where there's no clear good and bad guys. In essence, everything would be neutral at that point, which makes gaming so much less fun and bland. Life already has enough grey areas- I play fantasy games to conquer evil, not rehash real life!
I agree as well and I thought that idea was implicit in my statement. Neutral elements a
Quoting Frogboy, reply 15One thing I want to mention: Elemental has far more than 2 factions to play as. There are only two RACES (just as Civilization only has one race -- humans) but each of those two races are split into several distinct and unique factions with their own history and back story and tech tree. @Sammual - I for one concur with your assumptions and concern for that matter. The more selections we have for options during setup (world, faction, character -etc...) and game play (encounters, items, events, AI -etc...) the better for all.

I would like to see each element represented as a different plane and control of a plane would increase the power of that element for the player and maybe for a twist decrease the opposite elements power.

I think this is what they have in mind already. It makes things like guard towers and border patrols very important strategically.

I agree a dynamic campaign map rich in visual and audio elements would something truly special and has been an element of the design that has been sorely overlooked in recent years with such games. Mix those elements with some alignment themed music in the background for ambiance and you have greatness.

I hope that things are not simply B&W. I would like for neutral or gray alignments as well. Think of the magic as a sort of a triangle instead of a simple line. The top of the triangle would of course be neutral and the left to right good and evil. Of couse all would be equally powerful in their own right at the extremes.

If you use FF as your main browser and don’t use IE at all it should have Flash9 installed just UL the avatar with it then go back to FF. If you use IE then download FF and do the same thing - simple solution.

I think one should be able to make or take none native units to one level below their max native units without any magic or random benefits in general. Consequently if the unit gets to the max native unit level there should be some negative tradeoffs.

I agree on the benefits of randomness. I think it adds a lot of replay value to the experience. I also think that it should be element based and able to be tweaked. For example the degree of randomness for each level of spells, the chance of encounters then the size or type of encounters, luck -etc...

That is a most appropriate saying for a company if I ever heard one. Maybe SD should take it as an official slogan. [e digicons]:frogboy:[/e]

That kind of system has always fascinated me, especially for turn based games that were hundreds of hours long and spanned hundreds of years. There could be genetic, social, political, faction, magic, and military to name a few. Back in the day when I worked on mods for TW I spent a couple hundred hours working out a T&T & V&V system called the CVP for RTW that became the core system for nearly all other major mod project developed for the game. I would love to have someth

Well since this is supposed to be a RPG I think a lineage system should be used; one like in Crusader Kings or the system in the Total War series. It would really expand the game play options especially will heirs and traits as well as vices and virtues.

Ummm.... I'm starting to feel stupid. Everytime I post about the art in a thread a new one pops up and the comments about the art in the other threads vanish. Anyway, for the fourth time, my opinion on the visual style is thus: I really like the artistic style so far. It has that 70's fantasy graphic art pen and ink visual quality to it. A very elegant touch if done right to be sure - at least for an old timer like myself. It puts me in mind of the images of Alan Lee, Darrell Sweet &a
