Sounds like a solid idea. I like graphics but they aren't the main reason I play/buy games. So only having the game on the cloth map for a portion of the beta testing is a rather novel idea.

Well from what I understand Nvidia’s 3D glasses work on every game as long as you have an Nvidia graphics card. The actually 3D calculations are performed at the graphics card driver level but some games lend themselves better to this process than others. Nvidia has been trying to get developers to release patches and beef up support for their new 3D glasses although they haven’t had much time to get anything major together I believe. It sounds like Nvidia h

I’ve recently been doing some research on Nvidia’s new stereoscopic glasses and am thoroughly impressed with the “potential” they hold for PC gaming. Now I remember how 3D previously crashed and burned like a plane made out of paper soaked in lighter fluid so I’m a bit skeptical of it going mainstream this time around. I was planning on buying a new computer in late 2009 but I hadn’t planned on buying a new LCD monitor with

The magnitude of the favor could be quantified based on effective cost and maybe even the need of the recipient (although I don't see how that could be calculated for a player).
Need could be calculated as a function of time where you or the AI could flag a specific favor with a priority of low, normal, urgent, or immediately. This of course wouldn’t be a perfect representation of
The "continuous turn" talk does still worry me a tad, though, especially because it seems to encourage a few folks to talk about Elemental as if it will be an RTS (or have an RTS minigame as the tactical layer). I *really* don't want to have to pause anything other than my music player while I'm playing Elemental.
Hmm interesting from what I’ve read and seen I assumed that tactical battles were
I think letting allies construct buildings within each others' cities might be going too far, though.
I really don’t see how this would cause a problem since the player would have control over where the buildings would be placed. This would really just formalize what happens in a lot of strategy games I’ve played. I’ll use Supreme Commander as an example, I find it ver

I’ll wait for decisive and conclusive evidence for a link between the two games all the same. Such as “This is the back story to Elemental” or a new dev journal called “Historical events of Elemental”.

I would point out something can be inspirational without being directly related to what it inspires. That being said some kind of link between Elemental and Galciv II is possible.

I always hated it when allies in Sins, Galciv II, Supcom, COH or any other game never really did anything to help you when you needed it. This thread relates in part to governments and AI diplomacy but I felt this specific topic warranted its own thread. In most strategy games when you get an ally they basically do their own thing and never really help you but they don’t really hinder you either. The exception to this rule i
I get the impression that SD intends to implement powerful magical/fantastic creatures that will pose a significant challenge to strong heroes and even channelers, even without implementing special named beast 'heroes'. Dragons are the obvious example because they've been specifically mentioned to rival (or even overpower) late-game channelers. I'm hoping that dragons will just be the strongest of a diverse echelon of extremely powerful beast u
Perhaps the map generator could even surround some of these 'minor factions' with wilderness features like some Very Scary Mountains, essentially providing a 'cloth map quest' option for players who wanted to work to establish contact with or conquer the isolated minor faction. Or maybe the real 'quest engine' could work with map inputs like that, so you'd need to send a group of heroes through something like the Mines of Moria to establish

Hmm, interesting I don’t personally see technology as magic’s antithesis or vice versa. Although you could make an argument for them complimenting each other or opposing each other in terms of game-play. Given Elementals focus on magic I doubt the implementation of tech and magic will be opposing in nature (although an Ironman vs. Dr. Strange type battle would be insanely awesome). I suspect that magic and tech will be fairly well intertwined with both being

I would prefer if traditional technology didn’t receive the short end of the stick and both the normal tech and magic tech were extensively worked out. I fail to see how this would be an effective solution to your turn X = calendar problem. Both have an important place in Elemental and I don’t think designing the tech system to heavily favor magic over normal tech would accomplish much save for watering down the tech system as a whole. Of course having more
My understanding is that all magic comes from the crystals and the only one who can tap that source is the channeler. If your units are armed with magic it is because you have gifted that magic to them at the cost of some of your own power. So if you really want to make a unit of mages that go pew pew pew with the fireballs twice every battle you can, but that would be a very expensive proposition under the system used in Elemental. I wonder what the significance of them being ruined humans vs fallen humans is. Either way a richer plot always sounds good to me.

23 Replies 140,856 Views

Huh, so we might see a similar such rift between the regular humans and the fallen humans similar to Galciv 2 with the Arnor and Dread Lords (or fallen Arnor one could say)?

Well to be fair I personal enjoy originality whether that is taking a classic and revamping it or coming up with something completely unique. Fantasy races can add a lot to a fantasy game but are far from mandatory in my opinion. Besides the most vicious and tragic wars are fought between brothers (aka civil wars) and since the two factions are kin if the historical, diplomatic, and story have the proper depth and scope I would guess no one will be disappointed. On a side note however we

Well I think we all pretty much agree that if player designed “super weapons /units” are possible to create they should have reasonable (on a per weapon / unit basis) time, research, and cost requirements, it would be crazy to make them to easy to produce. If the player has the ability to pump virtually unlimited amounts of modifiers (HP, damage, defense, etc) into a X ring for example and then equips a unit with said X ring there you go super unit
