Really looking forward to the early Beta (almost alpha really) and see the game grow from there. Going to be a great experience I'm sure! I'm also a big MoM fan and played almost all turnbased fantasy 4x games that came out, still going to judge Elemantal on its own merits and not going to try and compare it to other titles. Its always ging to miss things that the other games did have and offer features that weren't in the old game. Still from looking at what we know now its g
speaking of mom, since elemental is supposedly a spiritual successor... how similar do you think it would be?
Its a turn based game set in a fantasy world where you build an empire and become a powerful wizard. Those things are somewhat similar, although the execution is quite different. Other then that there are a lot of differences between the games. I would not try and compare it to anything really, you might get dissapo
I would advice not set your sights to firm on a beta-zero date. I think its more important that they get the needed components in such a state that our feedback is usefull, instead of just pushing out the beta. Considering how "bendy" launchdates are (and rightly so imo, if its not finished don't release) I would not at all try and hold devs to a betatest date. Hopefully this time next year we'll all be here to enjoy the full launched game. A lot of time and ground to cover be
Very nice indeed! Also have been pausing the video there. Great to see they are hard at work on Elemental! (They won't be jealous of the Demigod guys atm for sure :D ) Hope we'll also get some video updates for Elemental in the future!
Aye, they sure make me checking a few times a week to see or something new has arrived. Although RSS makes that quite easy! :) Keep up the good work!
Age of wonders did simultaneous turns as did Civ 4, for multiplayer it is almost needed I feel. While playing solo I prefer the classic system. Wonder or Elemental will include a PBEM system now that I think about it. Hmm...
Having both options would be great. There are time when I play (watching the kids, busy with other stuff ect) that I want to be able to reload a silly move. On the other hand when able to really go for it and set aside time for the game its great to have an ironman feature. Still only the first ir really needed since you can simply not chose to reload a lost battle or bad move... you are that strong right? ;)
I think that if Elemental manages to be so replayable as the Civilization series many many people will be very pleased. I know I will. If I start up a Civilization game today then I know that despite it having the same controls/elements it will be a whole other game/story that unfolds. With the random map options and the modding tools I've good hope Elemental will capture that same "magic" Still it will be a turnbased fantasy strategy game every time you play it...
Event log would be a handy tool indeed! The stories will be better if we write them ourselves I feel.
Awesome! The bringing a world to life is one of my favourite aspects of civilization/mom like games. Looking at what you're planning you're going to take it to the next level (Even a bit of Majesty influences there it seems) Now its that its you guys otherwise I would have huge doubts you could bring it all together. Now with the Stardock team I feel it might actually be possible! <p cl
Very interesting viewpoint on this by Bill Harris of Dubious Quality. Worth a read: http://dubiousquality.blogspot.com/2009/04/clash-of-titans.html
Great! This is where I signed up for, to see a game from the early stages to its launch state. Although I've no doubt still big improvements will be made even after it is launched. Good to be a part of it! Bring on the not fun! :D
Great to see that so much gaming / strategy goodness comes from Civilization! I love Civilization and if properly priced I might even rebuy it just to be done with all the cdrom hassle. (Although that's not something to encourage publisher to go and try for :) ) I really like the idea of being able to play a Civlization like fanatasy strategy game and pick some choice battles to take personal command!
The graphics keep getting better and better! Very nice work indeed! :D The idea's you guys are tossing around though... Wow! Really looking forward to conquering that living breathing world! :)
I really like the art direction. Clear and leaves room for imagination. Still its all about the gameplay, but I guess that's somewhat hard to show off with a screenshot. Looking forward to the beta test!
My biggest hope is that it will do for the turn-based fantasy genre what Civilization 4 did for the turn-based global strategy genre. Revitalize it. Civ 4 was great on its own (also due the great expansion packs) but most of that came from the modability. That keeps people interested and the game fresh. My biggest fear is that is will have a bad launch and crumble before even Stardock can rush in with patches and fix things. Elemental needs a good sized community and therefore need
Looking forward to playing on the "cloth" map. I like the idea of starting there and seeing the game build upon that when it moves closer to launch. Since i've played games with ASCII I think i'll be fine anyway :)
So that is how you devs plan on winning the multiplayer games... nice move! [e digicons]:D[/e]
I must say that I don't see any reason to include this in Elemental. (as others stated already) Its a turnbased fantasy strategy game, not a racer, fps or anything were I can see benefits of including it. Rather see Stardock spending their limited time on more important issues. (Balance, modabilty ect.)
I ordered as soon as I could with my last remaining tokens a few months back. Today I actually found time to update my two machines to Impulse. Very nice looking app for sure! Picked up all my TGN games no problem. Only one not listed is Elemental, but I guess that's due to it being so far off yet. My tokens are gone though on Stardock Central, so I guess I've "paid" for Elemental already. No idea how the money transfers are handled. Will likely get entrancement for SOASE through Impulse soon
I do enjoy random locations a lot. Its nice to "unpack" them. Still I feel that the HOMM series put in way way to much. But if its like Age of Wonders or Master of Magic, Warlords then I would enjoy random location for sure!
This is going to be a revolution in turnbased gaming! If Civlization V doesn't get released to close near your launch you should be golden. I really like the idea of "creating" you own units with a custom look. Going to feel so much more personal when they'll do battle! Aplha Centauri also did this a bit, but I think the technology wasn't avanced enough yet to pull it off back then. Of course GalCiv II also implemented the system, but for spaceships it I think its a bit easier to
The sand box mode will have tons of story in it because there are quests and such triggered by player actions.
Awesome! Plus the modding options will also provide lots of gameplay fun I'm sure!
