Stardock and WildGames/WildTangent are my 2 favorite publishers right now, hands down... big or small. It's really not surprising that the "make or break companies" reviewers exist (and are probably paid pretty well on a comparative scale) -- same thing happens in the music industry. It's a shame, though. Indie games, much like indie music, have far more to offer than the canned laughter the big guys usually crank out.
Just the fact that you guys are providing free updates (as opposed to waiting for expansion packs or not updating the game at all) is becoming rare these days. That's sad. There's a certain publisher out there (not naming names) whose name I loved as a kid. They were acquired not a terribly long time ago by another company that's nearly old as dirt. Their games tend to be pretty cutting-edge in technology... but getting a patch from them
I was about to make a comparison between the games industry and Hollywood movies of recent years, but it's pretty apparent. When the mainstream PC game market releases a title that's more fun for a teenager to play than it is to try to crack the protection built into it, their problems as an industry will be mostly solved. Until then, Stardock, the ball's in your court. You've got quality, top-notch support, and lack of distracting protection on your side. They don't. Ru
I like both. It's the peanut butter in my chocolate, and vice versa. I know I didn't explicitly state how cool I thought the game was, but... I do. Seeing indie developers producing good games AND trying something new in terms of distribution is exciting!
Hi! I'm new around here, after finding a pretty shining review on Gamespot a couple days ago. I think you're pretty bold in your no-copy-protection, register-for-updates model. But if it works (and it appears to at least be holding its own) you will have restored some of my faith in humanity. I guess I'd be part of the camp that believes more companies should be doing the exact same thing. It isn't a cut-and-dry case of "why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?" <b
