Combat Ability Brainstorming: Long Reach: Unit attacks first on defense, except against other units with Long Reach. Monster Hunter: Unit gets 3x Combat Speed added to Defense against melee attacks. Shock and Awe: Air spells cast in combat reduce enemy morale. Shield Wall: Unit gains minor boosts to defense when used in large squads. Volley: Special ranged attack: Requires all action points, but any casualties inflicted reduce enemy morale.
Action points / combat speed? When combat speed has decimals? Ugh.
1. It's important to have some kind of Initiative rating so the defending unit might actually get to attack first.
Not really. Units that might logically attack first on defense (i.e., pikemen, dragons, giants wielding clubs, etc.) could be granted a special ability to strike first. This is a lot less complicated than additional stats.
he probably hadnt logged into steam on that session. just leave steam running tetleytea... i still think its absurd that people are citing steam as a primarily DRM when thats really not what its about. a lot of the games that are Steam-only, its because they are using Steam's capabilities as a whole... not because publishers trust Steam to stop piracy. (They don't.) A Steam-only game means patching is easy from the developers perspective, it means steamwo
It's not Steams fault if a mod/patch program cant read install locations from registry. I never install games to default directories anyway. Default locations is usually Program Files and on vista/w7 systems this is a bad idea for a lot of games. I don't have a long bootup time for steam, but I'm not sure I see what difference it makes - there's no reason for me to ever turn Steam off. Sure, if you only have 1 or 2 Steam games, I can see why you might
I'm not sure anyone saw my previous post, but after reading the last page of posts I'm more convinced that Stardock should implement TBS like Combat missions.
this is what frogboy was referring to with 'Continuous turns' in his OP.
If it's just too good to pass up for whatever reason, I'll just pirate it.
You've got to be fucking kidding me. If you want to make a principled stand against steam, do so. Don't fucking wuss out and have it both ways while engaging in thievery.
I'd be surprised if there's no AI in beta 2, theyve talked about their work on it in dev journals. And AI benefits almost as much as balance from very long development cycles.
I think a lot of people are missing the point, Frogboy doesnt appear to be arguing that the iPad will kibosh windows, just that these features and the experience show that iPad-likes are a critical threat to windows PCs, in terms of how people use their computers at home and on the go. So the particular failings of the iPad don't matter all that much. As has already been pointed out tho, Microsoft figured out long before Apple that tablets were the future,
you arnt supposed to judge beta 1 ^_^
I think the actual problem in the cited 4x games is too much emphasis on technological advancement instead of gameplay. ie instead of providing advantages, tech lets you utterly outclass your enemy. i'm not convinced that they should have a tech system in the game at all. if theyt ook a tip from MoM and dumped explicit teching for the most part... i mean, research spells sure, maybe level up in adventure by adventuring..
Hmm, they didn't cover dragons in medieval economics. Dammit. PS: So we're finally the guys who are giggling at adventurers as we hand them Wooden Longswords of Suck+1 and point them at the Menace to Global Civilization? Man, we suck. At least theres always more adventurers.
Frogboy to Xbox: Needs more Ramz, kthx.
The generations of your children would sure be an interesting way of dating how far into your game you are.
I think you were sufficiently paranoiac with your THIS IS AN EARLY BETA warnings that it wont be an issue. :)
I think the title of the Empire's finance dude needs to reflect the social structure of the Empire more than the gold making aspect, specifically. I don't think the Empires care for money, especially - just resources. I would use Guildmaster (Doge?), Overseer, Legate, and so on. Or maybe just tend to the overblown and arrogant, as would fit such massive social-darwinists. Grandee? Lord? Domina? You could also aim for consistency with the simple descriptive titles a
