Ranty or not, the OP has a point - the game is called "War of magic", yet it depicts struggle of city-states and warbands with a tiny support of mostly maintenance-oriented spellcasting (touch of enthropy aside, but it has been nerfed). You don't need a powerful wizard to come to a city and achieve +1 labour production - consultants do these things [e digicons][/e]

I have the problem as well, it sometimes works ( = cca 5MB update ), sometimes I have to downloade ~2GB. I estimate I have downloaded more than 15 GB of data now.
Let's examine the tactical elements that govern military encounters: Local superiority(LS) - local superiority is the most basic, and most decisive principle. It does not matter if you consider a clash of large armies, or just a bar brawl (when you are about to punch someone's face through his skull, and someone you didn't see smashes a bottle against your head from behind - that's the case of local superiority). LS principle arises from the fact t
I agree hundred percent with the original poster. I am a Dominion 3 player too - so it's hard to refrain from comparing. The battles in DOM3 are awesome - when a "Fire arrows" spell turns a salvo of relatively weak archers in a fiery inferno, it's a sight to behold. Compared to that, battles in Elemental feel like bar brawls. The synergy between various combat battle plans and spells simply isn't here.
They are mostly glass cannons, but in squads, they rock!
Look at this:
I confirm the original bug, have it too. Clean install of 1.09p. Sometimes, the cursor becomes 'stuck' with the cast or attack symbol, but nothing can be attacked or cast. In combat, autoresolve can break this deadlock, but when it happens on the main map when casting, the game must be quitted and restarted. Also, damage numbers are often reported incorrectly.
I can verify that I had periodic crashes with 1.09p before - each 30 minutes of playing, perhaps. After deinstalling the game, deleting the remaining files and reinstalling, the crashes are gone. Hiccups and slight unresponsive UIs still present, but no crashes anymore. Don't know which specific files cause the problems.
Can't say the same. While I have been playing the past builds with a single crash, I got crash on turn 7 with 1.09p :(
AI is the toughest and most expensive component of modern games (considering their complexity). Most commercial games cut the costs here and write only the dumbest AI that can convince a reviewer spending a few hours with the game to rate it positively. If you manage to create a competent AI for Elemental, that would be wonderful. AI for Galciv2 was excellent.
Try Homeworld and Homeworld Cataclysm. I am surprised no one mentioned them - Haegemonia is a poor spinoff of those games. Original Homeworld is epic in every way, but have flawed gameplay, but Cataclysm is truly excellent.
I, for one, am not too excited. Oblivion was a rather mediocre game - dull, with consolized interface and graphics, absurd levelling system, uninspired combat (why do I get damage after successful block?) and generic "living signpost-style" NPC. Witcher, Mass Effect or even ages old Baldur's gate are clearly superior choices. And Fallout 3 - that was outright horrible game. As much as I loved 1 and 2, I hated 3 with passion, especially the cheerful, Americanized voice-o
Kewl archers should be overpowered. Sounds to me like they are WAD.
Okay, and kewl swordsmen should be overpowered too, remember Aragorn... and kewl axemen too, and kewl macemen, and kewl pikemen... wait, what do we get when everyone is overpowered? A balanced combat system, where one weapon (bow, in this case) does not make other choices irrelevant. I'm in!
A single bandit archer shot everyone in my group to death, armor or no armor. Moreover, I also believe that the floating damage numbers are wrong.
Check the ventilation. Modern processors slow down to prevent overheating. I was reinstalling a notebook for my friend, and after cleaning the airways, the performance increased noticeably.
Chess, Space Hulk, Memoir 1944.
Dwarf fortress, adventure mode.
Take your time with testing. I, for one, am in no hurry - I already accepted the fact that the game was problematic on release, and will be pleasantly surprised if the devs manage to improve it significantly. Meanwhile, I am playing Dwarf Fortress that keeps me sufficiently busy.
I really cannot find anything "good" about big, fat, greedy lawyers preying on relatively poor, uninformed people. Let's sort the BS out first - even the terms used are misleading: - "piracy" - piracy is a crime of attacking naval vessels on high seas. It has nothing to do whatsoever with copying or sharing copyrighted material. How would you like it if crossing a street on red lights would be suddenly called "child molesting"? It's just a label designed to make

Actually, the limit for 32bit OS is 4GB (but Windows let the app use only a part of it). However, using PAE, 32 bit apps can address more than 4GB RAM http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_Address_Extension
The AI lack any capability to adapt to changes of different strategic situations. Other than an occasional lucky rush, it just sits there, waiting for the blow.
Win7 64 bit person here as well, I must say commendable effort on the leaks (wow, so many leaks, is it C++? :-). I won't also play until it's declared AI is considered fixed by the devs and the players - many other things to do. I will let the new, fixed version of Elemental surprise me... when it's ready.
My vote - not fixed by a long shot. In fact, many game components seems non-functional to me (notably, economy and combat).Wait a few months, at least until 1.1
I did try to SEARCH, but found nothing relevant. I have a problem with quests - once there are multiple quests in progress, I can browse their list, but there is no way to see the destination of the quest (or is there???). I had a "Escort noblewoman" quest, but I could not find out where the hell should I escort her. I know it's shown in the beginning, but it's hard to remember everything, especially across multiple sessions.
