Well a big thing is listening to people play the game.
Why just listen? Why not for this next stage of the beta record the battles (unit position, moves, actions) as people play and feed the results back into a Stardock server? Then you can analyze the patterns and weaknesses and optimize the AI behavior. (Optionally you could use a set of genetic algorithms to optimize the XML files... but what fu

Boy was I confused when this topic popped up in my RSS Reader right next to my Arcen AI War RSS feed. Talk about challenging AI, AI War will put the hurt on you. One thing I like about AI War is that you are always on the brink of destruction. You always feel like you are a few minutes from being overrun, but each time you barley hung on until you could strike the final blow. Now, AI Wars does use an "cheating AI" in that the AI has unlimited resources, but its ama
I'm not sure to clearly state this, but the game seems "shallow". I feel that after a few games I've seen all there is to see. City building is simplistic, research trees are small, limited number of spells, the units are just variations of the same templates. There just needs to be a larger variety and paths that the game can take. Don't get me wrong, the core game is fun, I really enjoy it. There just needs to be more content so there are new th
I agree to having two queues. I continually need to remove and readd all my buildings just because I lost a unit and need to build a new one and move it to the top of the queue.
That is a good idea seanw, empires could earn diplomatic capital by eliminating bandit nations. (Build respect among the other empires by removing nuisances). This will give them a bit more clout when they are behind. (RooksBailey: Actually I have been playing a lot of Distant Worlds which has a good pirate system... makes me want something like that in FE).
Yeah, it would act like an independent nation that you can communicate with and have limited diplomatic relations with. It would also be nice if the camp was "hidden" until a unit, scout or something stumbles upon them. That would keep them from just being cleared out immediately.
I think it would add some depth to the game if 1 - 4 small independent bandit groups would spawn throughout the game. These wouldn't be small roving bands, they would be powerful groups with a leader that sends raids against the various cities. The player could talk to these groups through diplomacy and pay protection fees (to be left alone) or even pay them to raid a neighbor. Eventually when you have a large enough army the player can raid the camp to eradicate them.
If the game hangs (but doesn't crash) is there something we can do to cause a thread dump so we can send it in?
I don't agree with this either. I do like the idea that lairs can continually churn out groups of monsters (with the main monster sitting near the lair)... but once the main monster is destroyed and its lair cleared, they shouldn't respawn. I don't like the idea of random new lairs appearing either. I think overall the world is too small an cramped. Cities should be smaller, and there should be more open wilderness/no man lands between citi
I agree with everything Xan said. I also love the unique items and rewards from the quests. Getting a special item or a unit (even a Pioneer) is great.
I don't think it would be any more to manage. You are just allowed to build troops and buildings simultaneously. Oh I did figure out the city issue. It turns out on the map I was on, there just wasn't any suitable land for over 30 squares away.
So I verified #3. After the first city is settled, tile yields no longer work. The button in the upper right (that turns them on) does nothing. They also don't show in the little tile info window.
Hello, I have only played a few hours and I think this game is a huge improvement over the WoM. Everything is very clean, the interface is nice... it is very usable. I have a few minor comments on city development: 1. Is there a way to shuffle your city build queue other then removing everything and re-adding it? Am I missing something? Otherwise it is crazy to have to remove everything and re-add everything just to reorder an item.
I suggest changing the light depending on the time of day. Not the time of day in game, but the time of the playing user. During the day when people are awake and it is bright outside, the game should appear brighter and light should be whiter. After sunset the in game lighting should change to use more warmer colors (like the soft warm light from an incandescent lamp). Dynamically changing the light will provide a more soothing and relaxing playing experience for
I like the idea of researching spell books via the tech tree. Perhaps you should remove the concept of researching new Spell Levels (via Spell research) and just research additional spells books via tech research. Additional books would give you access to higher level spells.
Perhaps you should consider writing an AAR around the screen shots to give them context :)
BUG - City Level Up messages block the screen completely, cannot be moved, and do not allow you to scroll the map. When you have a large empire and a levelup message pops up with two, three, or more cities under it, it is very difficult to figure out WHAT city has levelled, unless you have a knack for remembering whether Rrejffeffwen or Jfeffheffer that you took from the AI is the city with a Gold Mine
What do all the kits & packs do? Are they explained some where? For example the pioneer pack allows a unit to create a city, the medic pack gives health and regeneration (I think). What do the others do beyond the bonus listed below the description? Thank you.
So... Your passing on a rumor rather then a verified fact? [e digicons]:P[/e] Edit: (I'm trying to be funny... not snarky).
That's too bad. Thanks for the quick reply.
It would also be nice if we could design units of recruitable races (Drath, Ogre, etc.) at increased cost (because of the need to specially forge and train things) just for a little diversity. I'd also be game for spider/shrill/etc. barding to make them a little more viable and defensible in the later game.
I think this is an great idea. If we claim a recruitable race, we should be able to use that race as a base for customization rather then just b
Has anyone purchased the ebook version of Destiny's Embers? Does it come with the campaign code? (Sorry if it is a stupid question, I've searched the forums and googled it, but haven't found a positive confirmation). Thank you.
If you go into the Dev Journals or News forums, near the top where it says "Recent posts" on the right side there's a small RSS button. That's the feed for that forum. here's the dev journal one: http://feeds.feedburner.com/Stardock/27/forum/513
Excellent thank you.
Is there an RSS feed for the Elemental main page (i.e. News and Journal entry updates?) I've searched around, but I can't seem to find a link anywhere. Thanks in advance.
Hurray! Can't wait. [e digicons]:D[/e]
