Right now you get.... a 'coming soon!' screen. But down the road, released in piecemeal, will be character models based on those in the book and mini-campaigns related to the book's story.

Perhaps Dan's having the same problem I've been having. After playing some 'all AI in' games where I got either overwhelmed with the game concepts while having so many AI running about or getting outright trounced by multiple AI warring on me at the same time, I decided to try a few low/dumb AI games just so I can learn the ropes without much opposition. So I pick 'Novice' world difficulty and either no or just one or two 'Novice' or 'Beginner' AI factions, usually Kingdoms so they'd be

CariElf: I'm actually good now (am currently playing with the 'make your own candidate' feature while I came back to see how everyone else is doing. I was failing at the post-install activation back around the time of Reply #53, but it kicked it the last time without even asking me to activate, which is where my surprise was. Thanks for keeping an eye on this thread and thank the team for jumping on our issues during this process.

I'm suddenly good... didn't even need to try to re-activate again. Just started it back up (I DID click on 'check for updates' on a lark, but don't think it did anything), then decided to hit Play again because people were having success and it just put me into the game. So anyone who's gotten to the activation part and failed in the past, give it another go.

Like Augie64, my Impulse-downloaded TPM2008 doesn't like the serial number from the email I received earlier today. Even copy/pasted both the email address and serial number from the e-mail in case there was a typo either I was making or one in the original e-mail. I'm assuming we're just taking steps forward. I'll email Stardock once we start having people here who are running fine.

Ah... what I get for not refreshing this board before posting. I'm currently in the same place as keithLamothe, so I'm thinking it's just the emails getting a jump on the official Impulse launch. (fingers crossed)

Well, got my serial number as well in e-mail. Impulse doesn't list it by default yet. I did try to register it to see if that might make a difference and was told my 'account has expired'. So definitely a work in progress. Hopefully I haven't caused myself issues goofing around.

I concur. Extremely quiet. But that's how it's been the past few months. Big announcement about it coming soon and to pre-order. Then silence. Some screenshots. Then silence. Some mention that some site or magazine previews it. Then silence. Someone asks about the beta. Then silence. Eventually its announced there will be no official beta except for a few random folk. Then silence. Now impending release... and silence. Those involved with TPM2008 have had their nose to the grindstone,

Capturing bin Laden would DEFINITELY change my vote... ...IF.... It's John McCain who catches him on video, gives him a good right punch, knocks him to the ground, rips off his beard, reveals Osama to be Barak Obama in disguise ("And I would've gotten away with it to, had it not been for you meddling old patriots!").... ...AND ONLY IF.... all this happens in space... on the moon, in front of a lunar lander (with a flag nearby, of course).... (I don't believe the moon

Kyro, thanks for the update and allowing me a good night's sleep (although I'm on call this week, so it might not help :p ). Hopefully it'll be available for download before everyone can come from a store with a boxed copy (@ Wed or Thurs). I've been burned a few times of late with pre-orders or buying direct (which is especially annoying for the few that charge ahead of time) where it would've been quicker, easier, and in some cases cheaper to just walk into a Best Buy and pick it up

While I would stay up until midnight (and most likely play TPM2008 way past the time I should've gone to bed ;) ) if someone said it'll be officially available at such time, I'm personally going to sleep at my usual time tonight and won't be expecting anything until I get home from work tomorrow at the earliest. I haven't been charged yet for the pre-order (which went in April 6th), which is why I've never complained that we never got to play with a beta. But it also doesn't bo

No go for me either. Had preordered the disk+digital download back on 4/6. I just wish someone on the inside would give some official update. Even a vague one like "The beta will be released as soon as Clinton realizes she's lost the nomination." would be nice. ;) If the beta is to remained closed, that's fine too... just give us an idea of the release schedule. I know they're hard at work on TPM2008, but it wouldn't take long to just throw up something.

Any chance the issues editor will be part of the final game, allowing the player to update the importance of issues or create new ones entirely so when one plays 'what if' scenarios, the issues could better reflect those of the scenario instead of the game constantly being about 2008?

Sometimes it's accurate to a certain extent, but makes little sense logically. I had a system with two big, juicy planets and a pretty schmucky rock. Grabbed both big ones and turned them into powerhouse deployment planets. Along comes another race and takes control of the piddly 4-pointer. Meanwhile, I'm using my two production planets as a staging area for my big invasion, so shortly after my new neighbors move in they're complaining about my warships nearby. They should've scouted
