1.) Early goodie huts are difficult to spot. Some sort of highlighting mechanism would be very appreciated. 2.) Quests many times don't clearly indicate where to go. With only five possible quests at the same time, this can lead to problems. A quest-log with the option to abandon a quest would help, too. 3.) It's possible to get very quickly a gigantic red dragon as companion via questing. First off, that beast obscures several squares and the only way around that is to zoom o

Well, sometimes Janus doesn't even show up after the first turn. Normally when you start out in a "snow" area.
That happened to me as well, although only in one game. The next game he could attack as normal again.
The problem is that the sovereign has a combat speed of two. I did the same quest and got the ridiculously big dragon ( on the strategic map the dragon conceals several squares around him ) by just always moving away from the enemy units after attacking one time.
Yeah, totally agreed. Retaliatory strikes are a necessity.
+1 Movement paths of armies and your sovereign make organizing easier.
Quests need to be re-tuned, I think. I just got a gigantic red dragon as a companion, with an attack power of about 950 or something. Also, that dragon now is so big, he conceals most hexes around my sovereign. The quest itself was pretty trivial, with one big combat, which is at the moment an autowin as long as one can attack and move without running out of space to move to. Retaliatory strikes really need to get into tactical combat.

Another vote here for tactical combat in MP. Having tactical battles only in some separate from the normal game "Arena mode" sucks.
Wow, now I get why there aren't resources left to implement hotseat at the moment. [e digicons]:omg:[/e] Personally, I hope for an excellent diplomacy engine, with multiple treaties and means of enforcing them ( military assistance, etc. ).
Not really. I expect PBEM would basically be handled as async client-server (manual save handoffs via email would require internet anyway and just adds a cumbersome extra step). You log on, do your turn, toggle ready-up for the turn to advance, and come back later. Once the wrinkles are worked out in that, then we could look into hotseat since a little bit of that infrastructure might apply, but there'd still be a lot of work to do. &
Reason #1: How do you make Hotseat work with simultaneous turns? In MP, turn advances for everyone, when everyone hits End Turn (or an amount of time after the first person hits it). Basically, Player 1 does his thing at the same time as Player 2, and they both advance to the next turn at the same time. This is inherently opposite of what's required for Hotseat, which is Player 1 does his thing, passes turn to Player 2
Sorry, I took it for a more generalized statement of "Of course everybody owns a laptop or two nowadays!".
Well, it's good to know that you and your friends are so affluent, but my set of friends do not all own laptops and I got my desktop and one pretty old laptop.
Over time, opportunity cost goes down. Right now that someone implementing hotseat could be implementing improvements to the Empire tree, or intelligent AI, or flashy spells, etc. In 6 months, what they'll have left to add won't be as major, at which point hotseat would be higher on the list.
Yeaaah... I don't know. My best guess is that Frogboy will have a list of features he really, really, really wants to get into the next
But this assumes spending development time for hotseat is not an opportunity cost. If they put people on making hotseat, those people won't be doing anything else. To rephrase your final point, telling someone that a game is good is never as effective as the game actually being good. There is a huge list of cool features that sadly probably won't make it into the core gameplay anytime soon, and hotseat is certainly not a core feature for a single
Hotseat actually requires as much or more work than standard multiplayer, as you've got to account for differences in diplomacy, combat resolution, switching which faction the player is controlling on the fly, etc. And there are fewer people who would use it compared to standard multiplayer (even more so since as others have said, we typically allow multiple installations in the buyer's home).
Count me as a bit confused what the differ
Exactly, it provides the atmosphere you'd get with a console but on a PC, it isn't the same playing it over the net or whatever when you could be chilling with your friends drinking some beers and bullshitting between turns. Can anybody tell me what his arguments against it are?
I've been following the development of Elemental eagerly for the last months. While I haven't pre-ordered the game yet, due to lack of time to do something constructive in the Beta, as per my latest searches it seems that Stardock will probably not ship the game with a hotseat option. I think this is a big mistake and I got to break a lance for hotseat right here. Over the years, hotseat multiplayer has been the source of some of my most memorable evenings with friends. I can't count

If you don't play Elemental good enough, expect your behind to grow hot very soon! [e digicons]:-"[/e] Seriously, though, Hotseat should be a necessity for a good MP turn-based game.
