What I realized with Galactic Civilization II and what has been reinforced with Elemental is that Stardock doesn't work their way up from a basic design. They craft parts and piece them together and create something not unlike a Frankenstein monster. It evolves and changes and reacts and morphs and mutates and lurches and sometimes spits up on itself or farts noisily. It can be scary and ugly. It can be awesome.
He does have a valid p

I miss a good information flow between the developer and the player, which you don't see in a lot of games anymore. Looking at my original Master of Magic manual, it has 150 pages, plus a second manual with spells, of 48 pages (granted, 7 pages are spells listed in different style of tables). There is a ton of detail in these - even down to the math of bonus stacking for offense & defense bonuses. I don't require a huge manual - a good, informative in-ga
In the gameplay-options you can check or uncheck "auto-move camera in tactical battles"
Which does not work. Every ranged attack, bows or spells, still has the camera swing. Actually, that's not true. Every ranged attack with a moving particle effect has the camera swing. Sometimes when I cast 'Firebolt', there is no flame, simply '-x' or 'Miss' over the target. But ev
You know, any game where the company promises to keep updating will never be 'finished'. I might be labeled as a fanboy, but I completely and wholeheartedly disagree with "broken to the point of being unplayable". I don't see the game as being 'not finished' or 'filled with bugs'. I downloaded the pre-release for beta testers, and started playing the campaign. I encountered no bugs. (Which is not to say that there are no bugs, simply that I didn't have probl
Just my personal opinion here, but there are roughly three types of pirates: Those who want to try before they play, but no demo is available. Most of these either buy it, or stop playing it. Those who want to buy the game, but can't afford it yet. Most will buy it at some point, if it lives up to expectations. Those who will never spend money on the game. Plus I believe that a lot of people who crack DRM don't care

It's almost enough to give me motion sickness, when I have several archer units fi
While I understand that Stardock will continue to develop the game, and I am mightily pleased with it at this point, I do agree with the OP. I imagine that the devs will continue to listen to feedback, and add things as necessary. Even having been playing since beta 2, it took me a few moments of searching the new UI to figure out how to cast spells, or even equip gear. Some kind of tutorial needs to be added. It might even come from a modder, and be
Are there any options for the Tactical Battle, or plans to implement something? The only option I can find in the (pitifully small) manual is about the Tactical Threshold. Here's the problem: When casting, or firing ranged weapons, the display 'swings' to the attacker, and follows the missile to the target. It's really annoying, and I'd like to turn that off. It's not helped by the auto-switch from the target to my next unit. Sim
See like there. Right as I was posting that, I had to shut everything down due to a nasty storm moving through. I could have played Elemental on the netbook... but I had to settle for Master of Magic. :) I'll have to play with the resolutions in the .ini, and see what I can get it to do. Thanks!
I wanted to load Elemental on my netbook, for the sporadic times I would only have that available. Unfortunately, the max resolution on it is 1024x600. And E:WoM has a minimum of 1024x768. Otherwise, I love the game. :p
Yes, I did like the changes to the UI. Although, it took some looking to find the 'Equipment' button. :p Great job, folks.
I'm not sure if mine slowed until it locked, but it did lock up on me during a tactical combat. Loads of errors showing up in the debug.err as well. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8468080/debug.err
Hrm. My screen looks nothing like that. I have no list of users, nor the bottom area with users chatting... just one big box with the results of the /who command. NM, got it fixed. No spaces in the nickname. :p
1. Multiple Views: A Space Strategy game should include several layers, starting with a Universe / Galactic view that covers the 'game world' whether that be a local cluster of stars, a spiral arm of the Milky Way, an entire galaxy, or whatever. This would be view that players would likely spend the most time in, managing their empire as a whole. After this, there would be a System view where players could look at individual solar systems and see the various planet

On a side note... big thumbs up to Stardock for working the weekend, to let us play early. :p
Congrats to all of you folks at Stardock! I'm also eagerly awaiting the release version to show up on Impulse. :p
Diplomatic Capital could easily be thought of as respect of the people. But it could also represent knowledge of others; the better you know their culture, the better deal you can offer. Currently, it's simply a 'Quality' trade good, for better trades with the AI. But it could also represent misuse of that respect or knowledge against a target empire. Or.. Espionage. Trade sanctions (reduced income). Inciting civil disobedience

I'd like to add my thanks as well, simply for the amount of attention and feedback you folks give to all of us. If you are on the cloth map, and open the 'Build Structures' window, all icons show. Until you close that window, that is, and only if you open it while on the cloth map. If you are zoomed in to the 3d map, open the Build window, and zoom out to the cloth map, they do not show.
