I suppose its a silly question! Right now I've got ObjectDesktop and all those wonderful programs (life without Fences Pro and windowblinds would make Windows so sad). Sometimes I get asked about these sort of programs by friends, so I figured I'd best look into this too. Now, at work I also use OSX (for maybe 7 years now) and honestly? I don't like the dock, but that's also partly due to OSX only resizing windows via the bottom right corner (which sometimes gets covered up) and pe

Ah! I remembered something - selected all the icons, held control? shift? and dragged to the recycle bin. Icons gone! :D I uninstalled Fences Pro then reinstalled as well. Still no idea what happened, but hopefully it won't happen again @_@ Is there any information I can try and dig up that would help you guys for future reference?

I can't delete the icons at all. I'm told that I don't have permission/authorization. edit: One of the technical forums I go to is telling me to uninstall all my Stardock goodness. Obviously, I'd rather not!

I've got a bunch of game shortcuts on my desktop in a hidden Fence, all going to my E: drive. A bunch of them went off for some reason and I can't quite figure out why... * Either they're showing a blank Windows icon (*.lnk) or a globe icon (*.url). * If I right click on them and go to Properties, the Shortcut tab is now missing. * I cannot delete the shortcut icons, as it says I need permission to delete the file. Not all of the icons/shortcuts have been affec
Thank you for these suggestions! We are putting together a Fences 1.1 wish list and I will make sure your items are up for consideration. Zargon
Very happy to hear that! Next time I see it on sale I actually plan to buy Fences Pro for two friends of mine :)

I use both Windows and OSX, plus have used OS8 and OS9 in the past. One thing I liked about the MacOS' is that upon loading/mounting a drive (USB flash drive, external drive, CD/DVD, network drive, etc) that an icon would show up for it on the desktop. What I didn't like, however, is you could never choose where they would show up initially - they'd just pop up in the first available spot starting from the top right and going down and to the left from there. Adding that feature (drive

Oh, buying games online is fantastic. 1. There's only two places here (Maui, Hawai'i) that sell PC games - Walmart and Gamestop. I'd much rather buy from Impulse/Stardock and Steam/Valve as I believe they're far better for the industry. I try to buy locally as I can, but this is definitely one of my exceptions. 2. No more lost/damaged discs or registration keys. Very convenient. I recently moved off of Windows 7 RC to Windows 7 Home Premium - using Impulse I reloaded

My doctor (at a HMO, even) literally told/prescribed me to get 150 minutes of exercise a week and scheduled me with a dietician. I think it varies. But the trick too is that doctors are likely giving up on patients not listening to them, and going with things that they'll actually do.

Oh, one more thing: I simply love how Impulse puts a lot of the important information up top, first and foremost: download size, protection, language, and territories (plus exclusions). This is highly appreciated.

On the topic of demos: It would be nice if they were more convenient to find from Impulse. I searched "demo" in Impulse and only came up with two results. Steam does have a demo section, which is nice, but even then that's not what I'm personally want. For example, Capcom's Devil May Cry 4 (great to see that, I might add) has a demo plus benchmarking utility, but neither is made mention of on either service. Same with Demigod. I would love to have a convenient "download demo" button fo

There's no need to pay for astroturfing when there are dedicated fanboys who'll do the same thing fo free. I personally feel Steam is still the better service all around, but I do love Impulse. I respect a lot of what Valve is doing, but I like Stardock even more. I try not to get fanboyish about it, especially when its so easy to get really tin-foil-hat about some stuff (OMGSTEAMWORKSTEHDEBIL!). Its counter-productive, pure and simple. Do I think Valve is concerned about Impuls

I'll have to admit: this is so foreign to me that my brain sorta boggles at it. It'd be one thing if Stardock was an OSS outfit, but since its not? Wow... this is a shock of sorts. Bravo! Now, let me go sit down while my brain tries to reconcile all this O_o

Normal cost cutting, but I'd imagine Natal will come packaged with it. I love that the market is big enough to support two major demographics early on (core and deep blue), but I think that Sony and Microsoft have two advantages: They can add functionality to their consoles plus it seems that third party publishers do much better on their platforms than on Nintendo's. Nintendo didn't crush anybody - it went after a completely different (and largely unaddressed part of

Just don't go public. I pity any body in a company that has to answer to short-sighted investors who would take a quarter's profit at triple digits if the company did something self-destructive over a company that's responsible through better and worse.

I can't tell you how many times I've linked, talked about or referred back to this post and its nearly two years later. The sad thing is that things have gotten worse since then. *sigh*

We unfortunatly haven't been able to reproduce... what operating system are you working with? Which specific game and do you know the original resolution / what resolution it changes to? Do you have a mutli-monitor system? And you say it moves to a different fence... if you say move the fence that it moves to to another spot on the screen, does it still move there? If you put another new fence where that one used to be, does it show up in that one instead? Windows 7 64-bit (R

I promise I'll not be so impatient when it comes to games that haven't been released yet. I already pre-ordered STO then found, TO MY DISMAY (like, 5 minutes ago) that I could've gotten it from you guys. OooOoooh I'm a sad panda right now.

Oh, and I'm really REALLY hoping to see NCSoft get added onto your list of companies on Impulse. I would REALLY like to get the new City of Heroes expansion when it comes out from you guys if at all possible. Was hoping for Star Trek Online as well, but I guess not for launch, at least...

While this is focused on Steam, skim through it and then read the comments. There's some very good ideas in there, methinks (as well as some boneheaded ones, but hey, its the internet). http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2010/01/what-wed-do-in-a-perfect-world-to-fix-steams-problems.ars I love Impulse with my heart, Steam with my wallet - but so long as both improve, I'll be quite happy.

Great read. I'm looking forward to seeing more stuff on Impulse. IF you guys can get NCSoft on board before the City of Heroes expansion comes out I promise I'll buy from you!

City of Heroes. I did a check to make sure things behaved first and on the official forums (plus their support base) there were mentionings of COH not getting along with Windowblinds. However, one poster did say, "Hey, this is what you do," which was to make COH an exception to the whole skinning thing.

And I found a forum post troubleshooting Windowblinds and my game (thank you exceptions!). So, yeah, Windowblinds bought with thoughts of getting Object Desktop later on-ish :) I'm LOVING it, thank you very, very much.
