That was it! Now I can see the menu. I would have never thought of something like that; some string to numeric conversion then? I think this thread could be tagged as FIXED. (oh, well, even better if that problem could be resolved without me changing the numeric options) Thank you very much!!

Nope. Even with the new card, nothing to do, still unplayable for me... don't know what else to try.

the folder he is talking about is in c:\ProgramData\Stardock\Elemental - War of Magic\, even in vista 64, but it's an hidden folder, so you won't see it if you don't see hidden folders. I too have an ATI card, with catalyst 10.8, on windows 7 64. The new card should arrive today, so we'll se if it's going to solve the problem.

Any news? Tips? I still can't play the game, and I don't have any other ideas about what to do.

I've uninstalled elemental, and scrubbed the computer clean, directories (programFiles, programData, MyGames) and registry, downloaded and installed again. Still the same

Still nothing I've deleted the screens folder, installed the new drivers, deleted again, but to no avail this is my debug.err http://pastebin.com/F47tUCeX

I have the same problem, but deleting the screens folder didn't resolve the issue. I'll try again with the new ati drivers.
