DEFCON = fun. Though I agree, the AI does suck. Who tries to defend South America against Europe by putting two thirds of their navy in the Pacific Ocean?

1. There are three possibilities here. I've listed them in order of descending probability: A. The fighter's pilot is very experienced. Ships in GC2 have an experience/level progression system, and high-level ships are far, far more dangerous than they first appear. B. The AI controlling the figher is very, very lucky; damage numbers are random, so it's theoretically possible for it to win that many fights. C. It's a bug. 2. The AI never surrenders to any player. I he
Interesting. There's definitely some promise here. A few points, however: 1. How the hell did the Iconians get to Mars before you? 2. Gameplay examples belong in the "AAR" forum - AAR stands for "After Action Report," if you don't understand why.
So they mount several of the warheads on one missile, aka. ICBM. If one doesn’t blow, one of the others will. Either way the evidence becomes space junk. That is all. That approach suffers from some key flaws. How many gatebusters can we afford to build? How many cloaking devices? Can we build cloaking devices? What about the power
As we've already established, the Dread Lords = the Ori. This is because: 1. Both are Ancients (or Precursors, Forerunners, First Ones, whatever you want to call them, it's the same idea) 2. Both are EVIL Ancients 3. Both fought a war with the good Ancients 4. Both are far, far more powerful than any other faction in their universe. That last one is probably the most important. If the Ori were a standard major race, it would completely throw off the balance. So, the
Chapter 2 UES DESTINY , SOL SYSTEM, UNITED EARTH ALLIANCE 9:32, JANUARY 7TH, 2225 TERRAN STANDARD TIME “We have new orders!” Cain announced as he walked onto the bridge. “Where are we headed?” “Command wants us to head to a nearby system – the one pre-War scholars called Alpha Centauri. Its name on the Arcean Standard Starchart is Siblia.” He pulled up the tactical display and zoomed in on a yellow star near Sol. “It’s a binary sy
Wooh! I won! And congratulations to all the other winners and to those who almost made it in. I look forward to a universe crowded with some very interesting characters.
Alright, that didn't work. New plan: I need a volunteer to post the chapter for me. I'll e-mail the code to them, and they just have to copy and paste into the editor. Hopefully this will be the last time I have this problem.
It seems that the chapter is too big for the forum software to load and post. I've decided to post each scene seperately - hopefully that will get around that problem.
Next chapter is ready, but will be delayed until the forum will let me post it.
That actually occured to me today when I was watching Atlantis reruns, but the Thalans/Wraith won't work. The Thalan AI naturally inclines towards good, while the Wraith, as we all know, are inherently evil. Then again, the only Wraith capable of getting to our galaxy anyways is Michael (unless he's dead by now, the Great White North is about a season behind you guys), who seems to be basically trustworthy. The Drath might work as the Geniis. Both are masters of espionage and d
Chapter 1 CHICAGO, EARTH, UNITED EARTH ALLIANCE 8:00, JANUARY 1ST, 2225, TERRAN STANDARD TIME Bradley had never gotten used to the early mornings at the Presidential Residence. The President normally pulled long hours, and since the Crash he was almost always up. “Mister President?” Bradley looked up from his desk to see Jonathan Ford, Director of the Interior, step inside. “Jack. Good news, I hope?” “We just got a report in from the No

Prelude CITY OF CHICAGO, EARTH, UNITED EARTH ALLIANCE 22:00, DECEMBER 14TH, 2224, TERRAN STANDARD TIME Nothing lasts forever. That was something that Alan Bradley, President of the United Earth Alliance, knew all too well. Stability was an illusion – the universe was in constant shift, constant change, constant chaos. In the beginning of the third millennium, the leaders of the West thought that their position as masters of the world was unassailable. Then the
Well, I for one would like the inclusion of the Ori, though not as a major race. Instead, I think they should replace the Dread Lords. There's a lot of similitaries between the GalCiv and Stargate plotlines and races that make them perfect for modding, and the more similar to factions are, the less work it will be to mod one into the other. Some obvious changes: Terran Alliance = Tauri (possibly United Earth Government, or something similar?) Drengin Empire = Remna
For Those of You Who have No Idea What's Going On Some of you may have entered this thread with absolutely no idea what this is. For those of you not familiar with the concept of forum RPs, it works like this - each player has a character (or set of characters) whom they role-play. In each post, they describe their character's actions, interacting with the characters of the other players. There are no dice or numbers, and the results of a conflict between two characters works on an ho
Actually, there already is religion (and religious wars) in the game. The game lore links ethics to religion, hence why each ethical path has a "Temple" improvement. You can see this in the text for alignment-changing random events, in which the shift in ethics is attributed to a major religious movement.
Chapter 1: Meet the New Boss 9:03 AM, JANUARY 1ST, 2225 CHICAGO, EARTH, TERRAN ALLIANCE Locke shouldered his rifle as he entered Parliament Hall. Another day of tedium and despair. The government had been paralyzed for almost a year now - most of the elected officials had been killed in the February Disaster. Locke was dimly aware that a new election had been concluded recently, but it didn't really matter anymore. The golden age that had awaited them, the
Inspired somewhat by some of the fanfiction posted elsewhere in these forums, I've decided to dust off the Terran Alliance and write an After-Action Report (AAR) on our future history. The reason this is posted here, and not in the AAR subforum, is because I get the impression that most people don't even know we have subforums, let alone one for AARs. The Terran Alliance Morale +10% Research +20% Trade +25% Diplomacy +25% Hit Points +1
I hereby proclaim this to be THE COOLEST FEATURE EVER. No, really - everything from the idea of following prominent starships to, well, just the whole idea, oozes awesome. I am now guaranteed to buy the expansion pack.
I recall reading that the most commonly used name in sci-fi/fantasy is Cain, Kain, Kane, or some other variant of that pronounciation. Not to mention all the times we refer to galactic regions as the "Outer Rim" or the "Core Worlds". And I'd say that more than 50% of all fictional FTL technologies have the word "hyper" somewhere in their name.
Are you sure nobody else had a medium ship? I've gotten the impression that the cutscene only plays if your first frigate is the first frigate in the entire galaxy, which makes sense from the context of the text.
Not to rain on your parade (I'm a fan of Stargate too) but I just don't think it would work. The problem is, of course, that GalCiv and Stargate use different strategic models for space travel: although both hyperspace technologies are similar, there's no tactical equivalent to the stargate itself in the GalCiv universe, and without that the entire war dynamic, based around infantry columns and raiding parties, falls apart. Tauri tactics, especially, r
