Well one way I have gotten rid of the same name old ship designs, is to go into my documents folder and in the galciv directory deleting all of the user created ship designs. Stopped my crashes when I make same name ship designs in a new game. Of course I delete the custom ships before I start a new game. And I also tried deleting and then loading a save game but that turned out some strange results, so I wouldn't recommend that. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Wink.gi

Having the exact same problem too ,annoying, to say the least. It also might have something to do with the ship design crash I'm experiencing. Who knows
