Adni...what ARE you smoking....can I have some? ...'ere.... my favorite phrase in high school Stefan
Feline...you're definitely my kind of person...source code browsing is the only way to know what is actually happenning...I'm perusing the full source of wincustomize right now...truly enlightening... BTW T-Man...line 2356 of file '??????.asp' has a syntax error in it. Hope this helps
Hey DavidK, Where do I find this setting. I looked in the 'Edit Account' - which, by the way, had once again reset my preferences - for the rating setting, but could not find it. Any help is appreciated. Stefan
Alexandrie....my thought was that YOU would create all needed icons (all 300,000 - all unique, of course) since you have sooo much fun playing with them... <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles/sb.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absmiddle" AL
ooooaaaarrrr mate.....I'll have one too!!
Now that you mention it, I hadn't given it much thought...probably something innoffensive like a smiley with dreadlocks...maybe...have to give it some thought...
Admins, I have an idea (don't laugh...it happens, sometimes). As was mentioned in another thread, why don't you provide the ability for users to purchase 'custom' icons to be used in the message boards. As well as alleviating some(a fraction) of the bandwidth issues, this might bring in a little extra income to a site that deserves it - not to mention that this would allow us non-priveleged (That one is aimed directly at Alexandrie) users a level of personalization. I would be happy t
Nope...it just goes away after 8 years.... (no fancy icon for me....wahhhh)
I bet it performs slower that it would without them . It's all relative, I guess. I've got a couple high traffic sites (130+ transactions/sec) that are very much affected by session variables. Most developer publications (that I've read, anyway) advise against their use for just this reason.
Using session variables is, IMO, a bad idea...especially on a high traffic site. Since a seperate server thread is created for every session, scalability becomes an issue - the more concurrent users - the more threads - the slower the server performs (unless you're using .NET - state management is vastly improved). A happy medium might be to use cookies to store the data locally (as is done now) - and serialize this to the database at some point (Session_End, maybe). When a user logs in, the
Out of curiousity, how much does stardock pay for bandwidth? I've got a T1 at home that costs me about $450/month. I can't imagine that a T1 would handle all your bandwidth needs, but surely 2-3 of them would. Where does the extra $140,000/year in running expenses come from? Just wondering.
You're right...sadly...that's why I kick the snot out of just about any 15 year old I see nowdays....just in case he's the one pissing me off online.... All kidding aside, I think you have a very good point. Without 'suffering' the consequences of their actions (and/or sass), 'kids' don't 'learn' from their rudeness/impoliteness and continue their ways unchecked. What to do? Maybe I'll
OK...closed SkinBrowser. Opened SkinBrowser, selected Skins and Themes, selected Newest Additions and clicked on the 'Unlighted' entry. It shows 0 comments (I waited a little while for it to update). It showed 2 comments a while ago (I think). Went to the Comments tab and only the first list box (comments) is shown - no refresh button - no send your comments entry field. Checked another skin and the comments button (on the Skins and Themes tab) was enabled. Clicked it and was able t
AHA...I wasn't going goofy...I just went back to add a comment to treetog's latest submission and it had two existing comments...came back here to thank Woodbridge and when I returned to the 'Skins and Themes' section, the comments were gone and so was the bottom portion of the dialog. Odd. I hit refresh and the bottom part of the dialog showed up, but the comments are still missing (assuming there were comments to begin with). I'll try to see if I can reproduce the behavior with any consiten
I was only seeing the comments list box (the 'add your comments' box wasn't there....really really). Oh well, I see them now. Thanks Woodbridge, Stefan
38 Here....not quite a grandpa yet...hopefully not for a while (my daughters are 3 and .5). Besides, the only way they'll get pregnant is if they manage to escape from the convent
Maybe I'm stupid (no comments please) or just tired, but I can't seem to figure out how to comment on a skin using the SkinBrowser. I know I can view comments but where is the option to add a comment? Thanks in advance, Stefan
Stay busy Alexandrie!! We love your work!!!
Wow...that's a lot of downloads!!! Thanks for the explanation, paxx
I too rarely pay attention to the top downloads adni, but I do seem to remember that you were on the top of the 'Top Authors' list until Wincustomize 2 was released... BTW, what do the numbers next the authors name indicate? Are they submissions, or daily downloads?
Beautiful job guys....Much faster for me too!
