My first couple of games were played on "Painful" with 9 opponents (but not the dregin ). About 30 turns into the game the "share techs" UP council decision came up. They decided to share 2 "unique" techs with everyone. Well, what happened then was a storm of tech for me. I got about 20 free techs, because you get all the prereq's as well. Suddenly I realized just how the AI was trading tech, and res

This is a collorary with my previous post. It seems that ship move points are also replenished when a ship is added to the fleet, but only allows movement in one case. The fleet must have an autopilot destination farther than its range. The fleet must add one ship at 0/x, where X is the number of moves, so no more moves remaining. After adding the ship to the fleet, the fleet will then move the number of move points toward its destination that the added ship has

I had this problem too, especially on save/reload, alt-tab, and sometimes on the ship design screen. I tried 2 things, either of which may or may not help you. 1. Update your sound drivers. I did this in combo with #2, so you may want to try both. 2. If your graphics software can set anti-aliasing, set it to MATCH the anti-aliasing seting in the galciv graphics option screen. Don't run with it application controlled. Set it to 4x or something, which is the default for

I have not had luck with the autosurvey option and disappearing anomalies. Mine vanished early on, and autosurvey has not worked since. I currently have huge chunks of the map visible for many turns, but again autosurvey picks up nothing. Is the spawn rate very low on these things, even if they are vanishing?

A little bit of cheese for you using fleets. This is not a bug, but it may not really make a difference either. 1. Form a fleet. Faster ships are better. 2. move the fleet until it has 1/x moves remaining, i.e. one move left. 3. disband one ship. 4 Fleet now has a full allotment of movement points. 5. repeat until destination is gained or fleet has one ship left. Pardon if this has already been noticed, I suck with search features. This kind of thi

Slightly different ship naming process would make my life MUCH easier. As someone who upgrades ships regularly, I have to constantly rename them. Since I have not figured out a way to edit a shipname without erasing the whole thing (if there is even a way), renaming each one after each upgrade is a pita. Plus, I really hate adding some obsolete ship to a new ultra modern stack, which encourages me to rename them, which is a pita, etc. Currently, default ship naming convention in th

Select the ship you want to upgrade, and click the upgrade tab at the bottom left of the screen. It's right next to "New" and "Obsolete". The only ones you can't upgrade are core ships. Then, click on the component you want to remove. Click "remove" in the display window. Then put the new part on. Click save. To upgrade your existing ships to your new design, get the ship by itself, select it, and choose upgrade from the options. this will pull up the upgrade scree

Well, even with the varied graphical bugs, I want to give a big "Thank You!" to Stardock for making a space strategy game that is the best I've seen to date. Love the ship design! Planets!! Someone finally used Ascendancy's underappreciated tile construction method for plants. Reminds me of M.U.L.E as well <img src="smiles/Wink.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absmidd

Actually, there is initiative. Whoever attacks first, fires first. Missles, cannons or lazers. Sorry if you were talking about something else, but if I want to win a nearly even battle, i have to attack first.

OK, after download and installation, have an issue involving the Movie files. I have downloaded the full setup twice. The first time, earlier today, i had downloaded all but the movies and tutorial packs. Game started and ran fine. Current versions of DirectX 9.0c and Nvidia Drivers (feb 7, 2006 updated). However, upon installation of movie files game will begin to load, monitor switched to black screen with game cursor, then will ctd back to the desktop without any error messages. Removal
