Perhaps the best solution is just to require that an army bring along caravans if they want to get the cargo-sized loot.
Not to try to shoot down your idea, but what happens to the speed mechanic? Will it slow down our troops if we have an all-mounted army built for speed? Having an option to take a caravan or not when starting off would be interesting, but could be frustrating if you're exclusively u

Hey Keith, Not a bad idea, but I'm not so sure I like it. Based on the rethinking 4x economy journal, it seems production will have a good idea of emphasis placed on whether you have the materials needed and the time needed to either get them there or build it. I don't really like the idea of the caravan spawn, because you take these out of the equation. For example, say you won a big battle, but the enemy has a huge army bearing down where your only option i

If the loot isn't taken instantly, I think it should deteriorate over time, due to looting and/or rust, based on location. If the site is closer to a city, then looting could be an issue and it the amount of weapons/items available would decrease pretty quickly. On the otherhand, it is was way out in the countryside, rust would be more of an issue than looting, and deterioration would happen a lot slower. I also think it would be cool if there was looting b

Excellent idea, and I personally like the idea of the momument/tile to be in the same exact spot as the battle, instead of choosing it. Of course, that's just one man's opinion. It could end up being a very cool feature if a map features nature chokepoints and these epic battles are taking place around the same few tiles. I'm more open to the tile idea, rather than the monument as I'd like to think my troops have a sense of history and don't need some marker just to fire t
My only hesitation to PBEM is what do you do for the real time tactical battles? I'd hate to think you'd have to sacrifice controlling your own troops in favor of auto-resolving everything.
That was my one qualm with AOW PBEM. A lot of that game (and probably this game too) was in your strategy during the tactical battles. It's not really a balance issue because everyone has the same problem, but it can certainly be

I kinda like how Civ did it where you could build your settlement in turn 1 or you could get to a better spot and start in a later turn, but you did it on your own terms. I would not like it if I didn't have control of when I could start my settlement as this can be frustrating and lead to a little balance issues if playing a multiplayer game.

Another vote for Shadow Magic here, and yeah, definitely get the fan patch. There are also some pretty good maps & mods out there to really mix it up a bit.

McFungos - I think you have your wish. Quoting the preview from Gamespot: "There are several ways to achieve victory, such as simply defeating all your enemies in the world. You could also achieve a diplomatic victory by gathering all to your cause (sometimes under threat of force). If you are able to collect all the shards of magic hidden throughout the world, you will earn a magical victory. Finally, you can recruit enough heroes to your banner to complete a campaign c

Awesome thread. Figured I'd add my thoughts, coming from a guy who has never played SMAC or MoM. My first preference would be to have an option at start up. I guess I just don't like the thought that if I specifically pick my techs, why should I be penalized and potentially way behind someone else in techs in the late game? What if I just like to pick my techs, without doing the whole min/max strategy? Does that mean I'm also getting penalized although I'm not re
99% humans. Hmm, we've heard there will be hundreds of units in battle at the same time, but still, 1% fantasy seems just a little bit too harsh and restrictive. I like the idea to focus the game on humans, but I really hope that the game will still revolve around magic and monsters and not only around who has the highest skill in forging swords.
I kinda like the concept of it being 99% humans. I'm hoping the big part

Excellent point, I was just thinking I wouldn't like if it ended up something where the basic troops fighting in battles were some sort of dragon. I didn't think of it as the Channeler being a dragon. Not my cup of tea, but it makes sense and I got no qualms with it.
On the other hand I would really like something like a research lab that don't know what they are "really" searching, but the general way. Instead of having "research bless" you would have "research support spells, attack spell, summon spell, civic spell, diplomatic spell, archmage spell, etc.." Then you could stay with what you need ("I want summons !! What? Summoning a dire bear? Hum.. why not I would prefer a fire el
