Yeah that does initial posts... I'd like to be able to see replies too though.

Is there some way we can get a forum function to track posts from certain users? I would love to be able to see when the Devs put up or reply to a post in the elemental forums, but it can be maddening sometimes to wade through the numerous replies.
Here's a question regarding people as a resource: can I return them? If I raise a peasant army, can I later disband that army and tell the peasants to go farming again? It seems like there would be a significant long term cost to raising a huge peasant army if I'm then stuck with a huge peasant army long after I need it, because those peasants aren't acting as town population raising income and what have you. Of course, that may be a good

I think he stated this somewhere before, that getting said dragon in the first place wasn't supposed to be trivial to do. So the player who spends the effort/resources/virgin maidens etc to get the dragon should be amply rewarded with a unit that would crush most other armies. I think the drawback would be that his own armies would suffer due to the tremendous resources he would be diverting towards said creature. I'd love to hear some more in depth on how that would be bala

258 now [e digicons][/e] Actually I think the best thing about the whole deal is we're getting almost daily communication from SD about some facet of the game. I know there's a fine balance between telling too much about a game to take away from all the suspense and being completely inncommunicado. Personally I just like the fact that we almost always hear SOMETHING about the game most days. The fact that as often as not its the CEO of the company is delicious

So I was thinking about this earlier, and other people had mentioned the different types of TBS multiplayer types there are out there like hotseat. Then I got to thinking that since SD is going to host all MP games would it be possible to have a play-by-web (pbw) game? Similar to the play by email games, I would imagine that everyone would have to be online for the initial setup of the game, but then people could log off and be notified of when it was their turn to make their move

I think he means: 1:Post here offering it 2:Somone PMs you and you give it to them via PM 3:Post here again to let people know you already gave it away and stop bugging you [e digicons][/e] Speaking of which, just got mine in the email, so first PM gets it.
UPDATE: 5/21/2009 When players design a unit, they choose a category of weapon and that category of weapon (whether in the field or in a warehouse) will automatically upgrade as my tech gets better. A short sword doesn’t become a long sword or anything like that. But A short sword would automatically become a better short sword if I research tech that improves is in order to remove the complexity of having to “upgrade” units. Ho
This mean camp #3. Zoomba, it’ll be nice to hear how this will be done.
Actually camp #3 is officially stated in the initial post in the thread and quoted by Annatar so I won't quote it again.

Alright so with the update (which I didn't see in my earlier post) I think I see a loophole or two but nothing surmountable. For example lets say you have a blacksmith in one town who makes swords and an achemist in another town who CAN make the potions to upgrade to +2 swords. How does the game move the swords to the alchemist, or would the alchemist just be able to ship the potions to an armory in a different town? Also in your example the Aereon forge doubles the attack of weap
Heh. I actuall owned some holiday bundle of Starcraft and a couple of expansions. It was my last try at RTS and apparently the clickety-clickety kept me so distracted that I didn't notice any story content
Whaaa? You didn't ever watch Kerrigan (the ghost) get turned into the Zerg Queen? Which was the whole point behind the Brood wars expansion (which I think came with the bundle)?

I'm for camp 1, I don't see how people keep claiming that it doesn't add strategic value... it certainly does. On the other hand, I have confidence that SD can create a sufficient AI/UI to make these things smoother as they will need to be to handle 110 resources. It's a 4x game, it needs to be complex.

I actually had a friends 10y/o kid trying to explain to me how all of his friends except one completely loved the new animated star wars cartoons. Made my head hurt. GW Swicord:
quoting post I don't want 'more story' for EWOM. I don't necessary want Campaign. These things are icing on the top, not something really we want. With extended sandbox play, story will be repeated and become boring, something that we skip right away. One good memorable Campaign is already sufficient. Campaign would serve as a thorough tutorial and provide some backdrop for the races SD offered.&
What it comes down to is this: People dont play MP to play the computer. We can put the saved time into a better in-game AI, but developing the external bot architecture, just to have people complain that they end up playing AI in MP, is a waste of resources. As for the streamlined economic model, dont worry about there not being enough depth...we're floating a few systems around ,but it wont be a complete departure from what was origi

150 Replies 255,877 Views
2. I’m killing off the bots concept. People hate them. I thought they were cool but they’re too much work only to be hated. So there won’t be artificial players.
I'm actually very dissapointed to hear this, aside from the economics information revealed previous to this post, this was probably the most exciting thing that i'd heard about elemental so far. Lets face it, the gaming community in general does
