Is there a way to make a custom faction? I know there used to be one. I made on in beta a long time ago and it is available for me to select, but I don't see a button to create one anymore.
Blegh, I was hoping you could get away from "worker" units since you're planning to keep track of villagers.
But why keep track of villagers unless they are to be a valued resource that must be spent?
Really I don't see the problem with being able to name your own currency and have every state with it's own unique coinage. No need for exchange rates or anything, just make it all the same and put a coin icon next to it and everyone will know what it means inside diplomacy dialogues. It would be a nice little touch that I don't believe I've ever seen in any civilization sim game.
September 1st is summer time? I always considered that fall.
Why shouldn't an outpost cost maintanence? If all it is is an outpost with no infrastructure of its own, it would logically need to import all of its supplies for the small number of people living there.
Weakness - Glutton -1 food production(it could be higher or lower since I have no idea how much that is relative to the game world, as I have not yet played the beta) and makes your channeler fat, because where do you think that food is going?
Magic. Seriously, a spell or spell-like ability that is researched like any spell, but would cost gold instead of mana or whatever to cast. Make it generate a few miles of road per turn(perhaps modified by how much gold you spend on it). Maybe a few types of roads, for instance: paved highways and underground low-ways.
