Playing a lot of Victoria II lately, it's awesome! Some bugs, but still good, and with a patch coming it's only going to get better. Highly recommend it, although anyone thinking of buying it might want to wait until after the 1.2 patch. Late game the world economy tends to crumble into dust... and the rebels are monstrous.

I would definitely like this feature to be implemented at some point, almost regardless of implementation, since the current situation of cities surrendering to a dude with an attitude seems bizarre.

Sounds like they fixed it, according to the latest journal by Frogboy: "And of course bug fixes galore, especially on memory (this got fixed in beta 5, I was quite concerned on this one, but thanks to users helping us, we were able to track this down to our effects system not deallocating properly and on certain newer ATI cards on 64-bit windows it could lose 100 megabytes per turn)." So hopefully that marks the end of that nasty bug.

Here is a .zip file made following my latest out of memory crash: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9574588/Elemental0_98-2010-07-31T02-49-37-281.zip I do auto-save every three turns. I wouldn't say I was getting into a lot of tactical battles, no... I think only one actually. The memory usage seemed to go up pretty consistently from the very beginning (unless I do nothing, then it stays even) until

Getting the same thing, on a i7 920 with a ATI 5770... vista 64. Didn't use to experience this in any of the previous versions. Also the .zip files from the .98 crashes are all 0 kb files so evidently useless. There is a .dmp file from the last crash (although the game never CTD for me, just ceases to function and stays frozen until I CTRL-ALT-Delete). Maybe that is useful. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9574588/Elemental0_98-2010-07-30T01-24-35-885.dmp
