Heroes of Might & Magic is definitely the King in my book. There is also King's Bounty series which is a bit more subtle and less complex. If you get the complete set of Heroes of Might and Magic 5, it will offer a real challenge and also present you with an editor and some robust options for making your own campaigns. It's also rock solid, looks fantastic, is deep with great features and has yet to be dethroned as the turn based strategy game of the genre.

I see that quite a few people are very frustrated with this release and their feelings are more than justified. I see there is also a counter-balance of fanboys taking to these issues by trying to curb the problems with faith. I see politics seeping into the mix with the reviews & less than stellar responses from normally reputable sources. I was waiting for this game as I have been a huge fan of GalCiv2 for years and I figured that since this was a Stardock game, I would be in for a big treat of high quality and great gameplay.
