...but the CPU frying issue, the hard disk corruption issue, and of course the video card overheating problems have been mostly taken care of...
I wonder if the people who had one of these problems in the GC2 beta found this funny...

I've been looking forward to this since you guys talked about MoM in the GalCiv 1 forums ages ago. Makes me want to read Silmarillion again too.
Yea, certainly most people will be playing it 32-bit but the 64-bit version lets us have much larger maps because we aren't fighting with the 2 gig limit of 32-bit.
Does this mean the 32 bit version won't be linked with /LARGEADDRESSAWARE for some reason? Some of us with 32-b

So far, it seems to me like culture never goes over 50 (in the statistics shown after a game), even if you cover the whole galaxy.

I noticed this too. In my end game statistics, it showed my culture hit and stayed at 50, even though the whole galaxy was my color and I had multiple broadcast centers at every colonizable planet except the pirate base and the last enemy asteroid colony, and had all culture related techs researched.

but I now find myself going straight to the empire control panel on the left I find that panel to be almost totally useless in its current state for controlling my empire once I have more than about 10 planets or so, which is where a little help starts getting useful. It takes too long to click every planet to see which one it is, and expanding one of them takes up about half my vertical screen real estate if it has any decent amount of things in it, so

Actually, I like having the pirates to slow down colonization a bit in the beginning, especially for the more valuable planets (terran planets seem to have really big pirate fleets). Makes you somewhat safe for a bit from the rush and makes cranking out colonizers to just grab everything in sight not viable.

Hmm, there should be a little white plus sign on the ship's icon and around its mesh view should have a big glowy white particle effect. I've seen a big glowy white particle effect when it levels up, but it only lasts a few seconds, and so that doesn't help if I'm managing things in another system (darn CPUs won't just take turns fighting me ). Haven't noticed a

I'm going to ramble a bit about the production/economic aspects, since that seems to be what takes most of my concentration, and not in a good way. Also, I hate making comparisons to other games, but I will anyway. Blair asked specifically to post my opinion on this, since I guess you guys disagree about it a lot... Now, a lot of this could be alleviated by some UI improvements, which I don't think we're supposed to provide feedback on yet, so I'll shove those comments to the bottom.

The Galactic Terran Alliance wasn't my first thought; I'd say as long as you don't start thinking Galciv was made by Rock Stardock and your approval ratings don't Descend of their own Volition, you're fine. Hmm... Freespace though... (looks longingly at his Saitek X45 sitting in the corner...)

I might buy it, I might not... I don't play around much with the ship editor. If the hulls/parts were really, really cool though, I possibly would. Maybe more fancy lights and things ( I like lights and lighting ). Sorry, I know that doesn't help much. I find it strange that people don't want to get a credit card. I avoided getting a credit card, and because of that, my auto insurance costs $50 more than it would even if I had bad credit and it was difficult to get a loa

The Ur-Quan Masters is more a port of the 3DO version, which was open-sourced (and very pretty), than a remake. The most significant changes that were made were to get it to work on Windows, add some scalar options to reduce the low-res look, and put in the PC intro, outro, and options for the PC-style menus and other interface objects. And they fixed a crash that would occur if you reached a certain point in the game without ever visiting the starbase, and made it possible to complete the gam

My understanding is the lighting in this game is done with shaders, correct? I have heard of problems where GeForce 2 MX drivers falsely report hardware shader support, and often have problems when games actually try to use the shaders. The ships look to me like they are just being rendered as white with no lighting calculations done, or with no material data.
