Machater, thank you for the patch you posted. It allowed me to play without the OOM errors that have plagued me (up until the 1st, of course). Like the other poster said, you deserve a friggin' medal and if it were possible, you'd have a beer popping out of your disk-drive right about now. Great job [e digicons]k6[/e]

Hey Machater, just wanted to thank you for this fix - it let me play without OOM errors for a nice long time before the game started rejecting the patched exe. Great job. [e digicons][/e]
I'm glad that worked for you, Cantrip, but yeah. . . back to the OOM errors. Glad to hear that, Neil - thanks for the info.
Yeah, that's what it does and it does not seem like something that would invalidate my copy of Elemental, but as soon as I switched it out for the original .exe, the game loaded up just fine. Here's a link to the post: https://forums.elementalgame.com/393090
It happened to me too, but I was using the user-created out of memory solution patch that allows Elemental to use more memory (the thread is located somewhere in this forum). I had no trouble with it til last night and it had actually fixed my OOM problems. Once I went back to the original, unpatched elemental.exe I stopped getting the sad face.
Oops - should've read that a little more thoroughly. [e digicons]:X[/e]
I think what you're seeing is a caravan moving from the city you're attacking to some other city. Once you establish a caravan is goes back and forth automatically and sometimes gets in the way. Maybe waiting a turn or two would get it out of the way so you can attack the city.
Damn, and here I thought I was going to be the guy that saved the hair of dozens of frustrated gamers. Oh well, there's always tomorrow. [e digicons]O:)[/e]
New ATI drivers for the HD 4800 series for Win7 64-bit were released today . Hopefully this will help those of us that are getting OOM errors or are having trouble starting the game. Just an FYI. [e digicons]:D[/e]
Thanks, Mister - updated my post on that thread.
Kryo, here's a debug of my latest OOM error on a Win7 64-bit Ultimate system with the latest ATI drivers. http://pastebin.ca/1925192 I've got a dump zip, too: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10552045/Elemental1_05-2010-08-25T12-44-18-162.zip Love the game even with the growing pains, hope this helps.
Neo, I think they said in the patch notes that you can't create Empire factions because of the problem you just mentioned - no tech trees. I've successfully created a Kingdom faction without any problems. Hope this helps.
Latest ATI drivers on Win7 64-bit Ultimate, OOM error after ending my turn on the world map. pastebin: http://pastebin.ca/1925192 Dump zip: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10552045/Elemental1_05-2010-08-25T12-44-18-162.zip
I'm not running Ati tray tools and not even running it as admin works. I can eventually get EWoM to work by repeatedly reloading, though.
Got an out out of memory error, as well. Playing a large map, had 3 cities, and I was moving my sov group around the map (zoomed in a little - not far enough out to be using the cloth map) when it happened. I'm on Win7 64-bit ultimate and have an ATI card. Link to debug: http://pastebin.ca/1924308
Thanks for the info, mstroh, very helpful to know that it's possible to get it going =)
Well, deleting that folder worked once, but after a ctd when trying to load a save (I went to the main menu after playing for awhile and tried to load) it no longer works. I've tried deleting the folder again with no luck - I still get a black screen on start, though I can hear the music, lol. Display drivers are up to date (updated today). Here's a link for the debug: http://pastebin.ca/1923542
Deleting that folder worked for me, Shirley - thanks!
