The dependencies needed to install what's just beta software after all is crazy. And needing it to UNINSTALL the software is even worse. That's plain insane... I appreciate your help, but having to install Impulse and IE7 so that I can firstly install Fences, then uninstall both, and then if I want to uninstall Fences or presumably upgrade it, I have to reinstall them both again is (to me) something straight out of a Monty Python sketch. :-) I made some comments in this other thread about why beta software shouldn't need all this extra fluff (security fixing or not)... https://forums.stardock.com/362745/get;2358273
Fences is free and people still complain.......
What they're complaining about is also needing Impulse and IE7. A beta is all about getting as many people as possible to use it so as to provide invaluable feedback to the developers. Potentially forcing installation of other fluff on helpful users is not a good way to achieve that. I'm happy to install and trial the beta and provide feedback, but not at the expense of also adding 1 or 2 other produc

So I need to install IE7 so that Impulse (the installer) can run so that Fences will install? Sigh, Fences is a great idea, but this extra baggage is IMO way too much. Sorry, if and when it becomes Firefox compatible or no longer needs IE, I'll revisit it. The version I have runs fine except the annoying dialogue box. Thanks to all those who helped...

The Good News: Looks like there's a new version at the Fences download page... https://www.stardock.com/products/fences/downloads.asp The Bad News: Tried it, but get an dialogue box titled "Stardock Impulse Setup Error"... "This product requires at least Internet Explorer 7.0. Setup cannot continue" I really, really don't want to have to install IE 7 (or any other version for that matter). Does Fences now need IE7, or is it just the installer th

More likely that the developer(s) missed at least one place in the code where the expiry date is used. They got the one for the dialogue box, but missed the more important one, the one that's compared to the current date for the purposes of checking expiry. Speculation only of course, and (as a coder for 20+ years) I confess to having been guilty too of such errors. :-)

Here in Australia it's the 1st of September and Fences this morning popped up a dialogue box which reads... "As noted during download, this community preview beta of Fences was set to expire on November 1st, 2009. Please visit http://labs.stardock.com/Fences to obtain the latest version. Thankyou for participating in the Fences beta! (Fences will now run in reduced functionality until updated or uninstalled)" Why does this happen on SEPTEMB
