It is something we bring up all the time. The publisher sets the price which in turn is bound often by retailers who are very dominant in Europe.

THAT really is the title screen for beta 1.

We're not planning on a February release. It was decided we would "indulge" and extend out the beta process piece by piece.
Class action lawsuits are preferred. They reduce my travel time. :)
Part of the goal with Beta 1 will be to make the game run on extremely low end hardware. I.e. Netbook-level hardware.
Galactic Civilizations II already does this. The AI will outright tell you that it's coming after you because you keep conquering little guys.
The AI is in the game now but it's really dumb.
It's one thing to be able to research magic spells and such and another thing to actually start getting a bunchof powerful spells.
Welcome to the Elemental beta. First, let me say that if you haven't ever been part of a Stardock beta program, you're in for quite a ride. Our betas are real betas. Some would even say they're not even that as the games send to start out very very rough and before your eyes, you will see your ideas and suggestions come together to make a great game. CREATING THE TITLE OF YOUR REPORT There are 4 basic types of reports. When you create a post, pre
Greetings! Below is the status of where we are on the development of Elemental. BETA 1: Game Mechanic Exploration (Fall 2009) Initial Build: Basic Compatibility Beta 1A: Initial Gameplay Skeleton Beta 1B: Initial Economic system Implemented Beta 1C: I
In Elemental, there will be random techs as well as techs that you can only find in the world.
For the BETA versions, we plan to only allow players to see the cloth map until the game is fun. At first, the game won't be fun at all in beta. Then, over time, it'll get funner and funner and at that point we will let people see the full game engine. :) Someone save the above quote as I'm sure it's going to come up over and over again.
Diplomacy in Elementla is going to occupy a much MUCH bigger part of Elemental than anything we've done before by far. If you've ever read the book "Game of Thrones" you will understand much of our inspiration in that department.
For me, the components of Elemental that I think make it more akin to Master of Magic than other titles are these particular things: 1. Massive faction customization. 2. Massive character customization. 3. Randomly generated worlds. 4. Building of your own cities. 5. Researching techs and spells. On Monday, we will be revealing a major new component that we think people will find extremely compelling.
Elemental will have a campaign in it though it will be handled very differently than in Galactic Civilizations (much more open endedd). The campaign will be based on the back story for Elemental. The sandbox mode of the game, however, is a sandbox so there is no "story" in each game other than what you come up with for yourself. That said, there are quests and events in the sand box mode that will draw on the Elemental lore. One big difference between
I can tell you that we don't do anything on purpose to break Steam's overlay and that we will work to make sure it and any other overlays work. That said, Impulse's community features are something high on our list to continue to improve.
The research is similar to GalCiv's except that instead of having say Phasors I, Phasors II, etc. you would just have Phasors with different milestones. When you research Civilization, you will soon get Diplomacy which becomes another tree which in turn would lead the way to Trade and other kinds of things. The dock on the bottom gradually fills up with different options to choose from.
The book would be a hard cover book (first year and soft cover second year) at the local book store.
Personally, I'd love to see 32 player support. No one has to play with that many but I'd like to see the game support it.
I don't think there will be micro-expansions for Elemental. We're more likely to follow the Galactic Civilizations path of things where each expansion acts as a chapter to the story and also adds a ton of new features and such.
So we're starting to put together stuff for the alpha. This week we're putting together the list for the private alpha group (basically a lottery). The exact day of the release of the alpha remains to be seen. Part of it depends on the weather up at Higgins Lake (where I'll be on vacation until early next week). If it rains, I'll be going home sooner which means the alpha will likely come out a bit sooner. If it's nice, I'll be staying a bit longer and the alpha will hav
