The F1 administration needs to stop emasculating tracks like Hockenheim and making rediculous rules(check out the new qualifying format) and begin recognizing and respecting the heritage of the sport. How do they figure that the pinnacle of motorsport should feature grooved tires, auto transmitions of ANY sort, changes that have taken all the excitement out of qualifying, etc., etc.? The kind of qualifying runs that Senna used to produce, the kind that made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, are a thing of the past. About the only thing that gives F1 any life at all is Schumacher's driving, consistently brilliant and in a class by itself. But despite the fact that Schumacher loves racing possibly more than any human being alive, and has proven that he is second to none not only in terms of his driving, but also in his ability to completely and dramatically improve any team he drives for, he is constantly slammed by the anti-Ferrari corps because he wins races. Despite the fact that he went to Ferrari when they were in terrible shape, and built them to a dominance only equaled by McLaren in the 80's, despite the fact that Ferrari has weathered the blizzard of regulations sponsored by British money and influence in an attempt to unfairly affect the outcome of races, and despite the fact that though McLaren and Williams, as well as other teams, have sizable war chests and excellent drivers, the man keeps winning. Where were the forces attempting to tilt the odds in Ferrari's favor when Senna and Prost combined to win 15 of 16 races during the height of McLaren's strength(which, by the way, I enjoyed as much as the latest Ferrari run)? I say let the boys race, stop screwing with the rules, and recognize the fact that as all things come to an end, so will Ferrari's streak of championships. The fact that Schumacher wins easily doen't make him less of a driver, and the Ferraris are no more dominant than the McLarens were back when. No one would try to rob Prost or Senna of their accomplishments, why pick on Schumacher? Perhaps because his driving is SO good that it generally doesn't seem spectacular, people are more inclined to credit his car than his efforts. But the fact is, he doesn't have anything but the support of the team he helped build, yet he has obliterated even the amazing achievement of Fangio, during a period where there are more competitive teams and generally more good competition than previously. Perhaps the "I hate Schumacher" squad should remember that if he drove for McLaren, they'd probably be calling him the second coming.
