Fences only starts with layout on correct monitor about 25% of the time

I am running the latest version of Fences 5 and have "store my layout on a per-monitor-configuration basis" turned on.  I had high hopes for the last major update but the program (which loads as part of my Windows 11 Pro startup) only puts my fences on the correct monitor about 25 percent of the time.  So 75% of the time the first thing I have to do is open the program and do a restore.  What is routinely going wrong?

I waste several minutes each time doing the restore because it takes several steps to actually do the restore.  You know - select the restore, delete the incorrect image that was created, acknowledge the delete, select the correct restore repoint, tell it not to make a restore point, and so on.

FYI the sequence of my routine is:

1.  Turn on monitor 1 (where there are no fences and no icons whatsoever and is set for horizontal/landscape display).  This is where I routinely run programs.  This is also the monitor where my "hidden icons" carat is located on the toolbar.

2.  Turn on monitor 2 (where all fences are located and set for vertical portrait display).  I have no icons outside of the multiple fences I created.

3.  Turn on pc.  Monitors and pc are all connect directly to a UPS.

4.  Once pc has completed initial boot-up, the screens start to fill and 75% of the time the fences and associated icons are all located on monitor 1 when they should all be on monitor 2.

How do I get Fences to continually put the fences and icon's on the correct monitor?

Added the NVidia RTX 3060 graphic card to my system last friday night and didn't have any problem with Fences since then. So I guess there's a strange problem on my on Board HDMI & DP graphics ports and/or the Intel CPU graphics or its drivers.
Do you suggest to install the patch on my system anyway ?

Hmmm, no let's see if we reproduce the issue without the patch – then if we do have something happen, we can try the patch for the extended debug info. Fingers crossed and glad to hear!

Ok, I'll pass the install of the latest patch. Do you need any more information from my side except if it crashes again ?

Nope nothing else needed. If it reoccurs, apply patch and then wait for the next occurrence after that and that’ll give us extended info. Hopefully though nothing more ☑️

Curious btw — did this begin after any specific event? Windows update, Fences update, system config change, etc? Also – which specific Windows build number are you running? (using WinVer.exe)

More than one week passed after I upgraded my system and added the NVidia graphicscard. Since then not one single problem with Fences. I'm running Windows 11 Version 24H2 and usually always update to the most current version as soon as microsoft releases a patch. So in my case at least, it was simply a problem with the CPU based graphic, maybe correlated to the known Intel i7-14xxx CPU hardware issue. Even my RDP connection to my CRM provider stays online and works stable. I was experiencing multiple daily disconnects before using the CPU graphics. Since I run both displays on the RTX3060 all problems are gone.

Good to know! Appreciate the extra detail. Will look out for this should others come along with the same. Glad it’s resolved

Dr W.

Everything continues to work well after applying the special patch.  However, I see there is a new version of Fences.  Does that new version include the code you fixed to make my dual monitor setup work for me or do I skip the latest update to keep everything working well for me?

Thanks.  Love the program now.

Glad to hear! Yes the new update includes all the latest patches, so should work just the same. Let us know if you see anything off. Cheers 🙌
