FE 0.951 High Priority Bug Fixes

Hi guys,

We plan to release a 0.952 before heading to Beta 5.  Beta 5 will be purely about bug fixing and polish but we do have a number of significant bugs on our list that we plan to address prior to leaving Beta 4.

Here are a few selected ones that I've seen others report that are type 0 (prevent playing of the game).

1. Missing unit display in the sovereign screen and other areas.  This is a video card issue but we have worked around it in 0.951. Turn off anti-aliasing in the settings and it should work. Make sure you update your drivers.

2. Slow down in tactical battles.  This has not yet been fixed but we know what causes it. It's high on our list to fix. It is caused by a model leak in the terrain that causes each rendering to take longer and longer. We expect to have this fixed before we leave Beta 4.

3. Crashes (in general). These are an ongoing thing.  As we improve performance in the game, we expose bugswith the multicore engine we've developed. The more cores your system has, the faster Fallen Enchantress runs. Compare the end turn perf of FE to any other strategy game of similar scope and you can see the benefits (there's no "please wait" screen in FE)  However, if multiple threads are modifying a piece of memory at the same time, it will crash the game. This is a bug on our part for not correctly making a copy of the vector that was being modified. There aren't many of these bugs but they're in there.

4. Save game corruption. This should be fixed in 0.951. If you run into any problems, let us know.

All other bugs would fall under "need to fix in beta 5" such as balance or stupid AI tricks or stupid animation bugs.  However, if you are experiencing something NOT on the above list that is detrimental to the game functioning, post here.

As a reminder, the key bits of information we need are:

1. What OS you are running.

2. What video card you are using.

If you can share with us any other data, such as debug.err or a saved game (saved games are really helpful in balancing things btw), please share them with us.

We're able to access the login server internally, but some people who are not inside the Stardock network are having issues logging in, so we're attempting to track down the issue.

Server problem UPDATE: It's a problem with the DNS, and it should be fixed shortly.

 

Edit: We've got the problem on our end fixed but it could up to an hour (possibly more) for upstream DNS servers to get the change.

FROGGGGGGG I owe you a guiness.       With the command line change and the zip file I can see my sov on the new game screen...starting a game now for other checks. I had newer drivers than posted, updated them this week.

All of my screens were exactly like the ones posted. I could not see sovs or anyone if they were the 3d models. I could see the start screen which is static. and the diplomacy screen.

thanks to us? Nope thanks to you and your team...we are frikken over the top passionate about this game. We will do whatever you need to get this puppy up to snuff. Once again having never seen the 3d models, they are excellant. And as always alt-tab back to the game. thanks again...

brad, I have had two ctd's on my b4 comp (i7 2600k 32gb ddr3 ati 7850 w7 64bit ult) in .951, and also noticed that casting 'growth' on my sov on a warg  reduces the size of the model by approx 50%, and also the trait that is supposed to give the warhorses BLOCKS all horses from the shop.

Another bug I get now is that monsters are moving during my turn. I think the new one at a time monster movement thing is great, but they delay about five seconds into my turn. My latest let's play video has saves a clear demonstration of this problem. Probably would be alright to just delay how soon I get my move points, but maybe there is a better solution.

Yo yo yo, I just created a new cheat, check this out:

 

 

 

See that shadow warg in the top left, somehow I summoned it off the battle grid.  It was the weakest creature in my army so all the enemies want to kill it but can't reach it and I can't move the shadow warg either.  So I killed these thing that are about 3 times as strong as me from a distance, as once they reached the edge of the grid they stopped moving.  This was all accidental, didn't mean to get close to that army.

 

Btw, I trying to summon the warg as close to the far edge as possible to draw the enemy away and was moving my mouse around as it was being summoned, my cursor was likely off the grid was the summon was being completed but I'm not 100% sure.

I reached an end position where everytime I approach the enemy city the game crashes. This is repeatable (have save file).

Its from the same game, in certain stages. I play as an expansionist pariden (ok I am always an expansionist), and trying to do silly stuff with the new inspiration seeing how powerful it really was (made the game and played half of it before moaning about the new inspiration ;).

Dunno why, but got bored of it lategame, meaby I just like the empire building stuff, so when there's too much micro and too little new empire building stuff I get a little bored :P

That is save 1, 2, 3, saved in chronological order. (save 1 is rather early, save 2 is midgame, save 3 is before I decided to try out a magnar playstyle).

Am I the only one who have seen a crazy amount of mana of my enemy teams after a game is done ?

I mean, I just lost a game a little earlier and when I looked at my statistics two of my enemies had more than a few millions, the curves max was precisely: 561.766.016 mana

Would attach a saved game (via DB) but i can not find where the saved games are.. :)

That is a known issue. The problem fortunately is with the graph, not the actual mana amounts.

Can i email them the save game ? I could put it up on a webserver I own for download but then I dont' want to post the url to the forum. The crash is trivial to produce; just move south towards the city (one turn) and kaboom.

You will have to ask the developpers for that.
