Bandit lord

Bandit lord profession sucks monkey cock.  Why would anyone pick this ever?  The free units are the worst units in the game, except maybe the "dog" and serve no purpose at all.  Single human club wielding, no armor units with 6 HP.  What the turd is that suppose to help against?  Maybe if they were archers with 20 HP, or maybe if they were in a "party" size, instead of single crappy bandits.  Or upgradable.  Or if instead of 2 crappy units, you got one bandit champion instead.  Something to make this useful.

Chance to recruit any bandits you encounter on the map for a "fair" price. A battle ensues if you decide not to hire them.

I'd rather have the easy XP.

That's not a bad idea.  Yes, bandits suck, but being able to build a large army of sucky bandits would be pretty cool.  And maybe giving them the option to build a "thieves guild" building that lets them build bandit troops?  Like human troops, with shortsowrds, some leather armor, and throwing knives?  But what would make them different than just being normal troops you build yourself...maybe hiring them like monsters?  Maybe they are discounted form of that build?  Like if you built a unit like the bandit, it would cost 100 resources, but having this building lets you build this specific unit at 50 resources?

Bandits would be cool if you could have them do bandit things, a bit like the spies in civ4

-Robbery ( attempt to infiltrate city to steal gildar, failure means your bandit can be caught and killed, could mean diplo penalty)

-Murder ( Try to kill an enemy unit or hero, partial success could result in injuries to hero )

-Arson ( destroy a building )

-Bribery (try to buy the enemy hero )

-Steal technology

etc...

Of course your bandits are of undeclared nationality so you can do this stuff without DoW.

Haha.

How funny. I made a faction called Idiots, and their Sov Moron got the Bandit Lord trait.

Hmm.

I like the idea of giving the bandit lord invisible spies ... maybe giving spies to an Assassin/Rogue lord as well?

(aka the assassin profession for Sov, which is different than path of the assassin, or at least I thought it was)

I think that'd be cool imho. Two factions that deal in spy networks (basically a small hidden scout unit with 0 attack ... maybe a trait that adds move and vision, yet makes one unable to enter tactical battles? (would get booted out of one, even if defending in a city. honestly I think ALL 0 attack units should do this, since the AI won't use pioneers as meat shields in combat anyways). And how fun is it really when an enemy archer kills your Noble Lady just because you don't have archers yet? They'd tell zero units to 'stay back, stay out of the fight' as its basically women and children by that point.

So anyways, invisible scouts. As we can See INSIDE of enemy cities already, the only advantage is that ppl cannot see that they are being spied upon (and obviously they cannot attack what they cannot see).

-> I think if an army initiates combat with a stack of ALL zero units, it should do an Automatic Autoresolve for a complete win with zero mana lost.

-> however people cannot see the invisible spy, so they cannot attack him.

This would allow some real flexibility in information gathering for those two professions ... would be pretty fun! :)

Perhaps the Assassin profesion's difference is that it focuses on making the Sov stronger, while the "Bandit Lord" focuses more on mundane unit recruitment.

----> Maybe rename Bandit lord to Mob Boss or Mafia lord? Otherwise yea, just allow the Bandit lord to focus more on 'mercenary buys' as in buying new units with gold instead of resources and time.

The current professions are rather dull/boring and either overpowered or underpowered. The changes you (and others) propose would add some much needed power/flair to the game. This would also be a much better way to help distinguish sovereigns from champions since they don't have these backgrounds/traits.
