Should or Should not.

Come on guys and girls, please just a from the heart gamers answer.I love this kind of turn base kindom build game.I see the reviews so very low score and many owners of the game also seem to hate it.Then I see alot of players saying they are enjoying the game and having fun.So the reviews are going from low 3's to 8+'s.What is the truth out there???

I personally think it's kind of bland right now, but I expect it will improve substantially with v1.1 (released later this month/early November). I'd wait for the demo which will be released with 1.1.

Not yet.
1.1 will be a lot more "complete" and if you're into TB empire building, you'll probably like it.

Atm it's like playing in a construction site. Sure, it's fun to some but the doors don't work and there's no floor paneling...

Should. But don't expect fireworks.

Wait for the demo.  :)

Te bugs that a lot of reviews complained of are gone. As a game, it's still a bit bland. Gameplay will be fleshed out quite a bit in the 1.1 update, and there is an expansion coming after that which will be free to anyone who owns the game now (so, if you buy now you get a free expansion later!)

I find it to be pretty fun in its current state, though I do definitely see plenty of room for improvement. Of course, since it's a Stardock game, you know that improvement will occur, which makes part of the fun coming on the forums and suggesting how the game could change.

Frogboy's normal suggestion is to wait for the demo, and if you're not totally sure after these responses, that's your best bet.

Wait for the demo. Personally, I think the game is currently in an exceptionally state which makes little fun to play, so why not wait until 1.1 is out when you can see for yourself?

10 different people will give you 10 different answers. As of now, the game is playable but a pushover. There are still a few bugs, but they don't make the game unplayable in-and-of-itself. The AI is extremely weak & so is the tactical battle system as of now, which makes the game overall weak & unchallanging. But, the game has tremendous potential & promise that may or may not be realized over time. There is going to be a major overhaul with the upcoming 1.1 patch in regards to the magic system, caravans, and tactical battles, so ask again after that patch & we'll be able to tell you if the game has improved for the better or not.

I'd say wait for the big patch after 1.1 and what Kael does.

Getting the game late won't make it worse when you do get it.

It really depends what you enjoy about these games.  I'm one of those who enjoy (enjoyed?) it.  I got more hours out of this game than I have many other games so I feel it was worth it.  Is the game great?  Not yet.  Will it be great?  Quite possibly, it has the potential and Stardock has the talent and dedication.

Currently I am not playing it anymore and probably won't until 1.1.  The AI is just too easy and so there is no challenge for me and there's nothing else that presents a challenge or messes with my plans/strategy that I develop in the first 50 turns.  That and I have other games I'm playing while I wait (mostly Demigod right now, sad that game didn't catch on).

This.

If you are not sure E:WoM is right game for you, you can just wait till demo is out this month.

I think it depends on you.  If you play alot of these games and have several time tested strategies that you've used in the past to win and want to exploit the game to the max to test your powers......not yet. :annoyed:   If you're fairly new or have played afew of these games and want to take your time and play around with it abit getting to know it before the changeover (sometime in 2-3 weeks), then I'd get it and play it knowing it will get better.  But it's not that bad right now.

Buy it now so you can practice for when it becomes a real challenge. The only 'real' challenge in the current iteration is that you will never have the gold to do anything. The early game is interesting; the middle game tedious in the extreme and I have never made it to the end game. There is a great game potential here, but potential not realized at this point.

I agree with the most common theme, wait for 1.1.  Then we shall see.

I LOL'd at this thread......really OP?   I mean here you say:

I see the reviews so very low score and many owners of the game also seem to hate it.Then I see alot of players saying they are enjoying the game and having fun.So the reviews are going from low 3's to 8+'s.What is the truth out there???

So OP, didn't you just get more 3-8 opinions because.......wait for it........people have differing points of view and differing tastes?

The truth my friend is........ "no one will agree....so you in fact will have to take all of those 3-8 reviews and make up your own mind".....hehe

Sorry man........had to post.  :P

The fact that people (reviewers) who LIKE TBS (4x) rate this game from 4-9 means (to me atleast) that they either have vastly different grounds of scoring OR some just suck at their job.

I haven't gotten it yet but have followed it since the first words about it were uttered and I will absolutely NOT get it at its current shape. Reading the following on this forum is enough:

  • Lots of abilities don't work
  • The A.I is incompetent
  • The techtrees are imbalanced
  • The factions are bland and without personality
  • Stability problems

The game is basically unfinished.

I'll wait for the demo.

It would be good if there was a new demo for every expansion (No, I have no idea how much work that is)

The game is not just played or reviewed 4 to 9 by players who like TBS strategy games, this game has an equal RP quest element for RPGrs. In fact, I think the biggest reasons for the disparity in review ratings are mainly due to two factors:

1) RPGrs vs strategy game players both bought this game

2) Players weight game functions differently, especially more so with 1 in mind.

I'm a strategy game player & I like city building, I also think AI is the number 1 game component. The AI in the game is extremely weak, in addition to the weak tactical combat system, which makes the game overall very weak (outside of everything else). Some RPGrs are not into strategy & couldn't give a flick about the AI or city builiding, they might rate graphics, monster diversity, hero design, the magic system, and the family tree thing much higher.

Otherwise, I totally agree with the points you made.

I personally think the current version 1.09e is certainly fun and worth playing, that said some of the changes in 1.1 will change the game a lot for the better I think, so really it's up to you.

Either wait for 1.10 and the first major changes to improve gameplay (this is also when the demo comes out) or trust Stardock will make things better and buy now (which gets you the second expansion free). The really fun stuff is not hear yet, but it is playable now without excesive crashes.

I'm one of the folks who kinda like the game as it is now, but am also keen to see the improvements.

I should note that I am not too interested in 'winning' - I like exploring the systems and the maps - in fact I get kinda annoyed when I happen to win too early - did this a couple of times when I was just trying to clear the map a bit so I could explore some more.

Depending on the cut off dates for getting the expansions free a purchase now might be worthwhile (early adopters are getting a lot of free stuff in exchange for putting up with the bugs and their fixes) - not sure what those dates are - someone else may be able to advise.

To get all the expansions free it needs to be before 1.10 and the demo are released. I think the first expansion is free, period (though that may not be so).
