Passive/Abstract Questing
The more powerful monsters are released by bumbling adventurers screens are great, and have made me laugh on more than one occasion. They also made me think of an old PC game.
Back in the late 80's, early 90's there was a game called "War of the Lance". A turn based conquer the world Strat game based in the D&D Dragonlance setting. a fun if heavily outdated game. One concept from there I love was Passive Questing. Take a group of heroes not doing anything else, pile them into a party, and send them off to treasure hunt/quest. This was integral to the gameplay/research. Heroes each had a chance of Finding/discovering items or new heroes, being injured, captured, and killed
So I was thinking what if something like that was implemented in Elemental. Take a bunch of Champs you're not using, dump them in a party, sacrifice their inherent abilities (lose that +1 merchant gold, food bonus or whatnot) But gain a chance to discover items(mundane, magic, potion, etc...), Champs (for hire or free/prison rescue?), Minor factions, Spells, etc... and also give them a chance to cause havoc as well, release more monsters (not more powerful), incite Brigand raids, hurt faction relations, get captured/hurt/killed etc...
