Passive/Abstract Questing

The more powerful monsters are released by bumbling adventurers screens are great, and have made me laugh on more than one occasion. They also made me think of an old PC game.

Back in the late 80's, early 90's there was a game called "War of the Lance". A turn based conquer the world Strat game based in the D&D Dragonlance setting. a fun if heavily outdated game. One concept from there I love was Passive Questing. Take a group of heroes not doing anything else, pile them into a party, and send them off to treasure hunt/quest. This was integral to the gameplay/research. Heroes each had a chance of Finding/discovering items or new heroes, being injured, captured, and killed

So I was thinking what if something like that was implemented in Elemental. Take a bunch of Champs you're not using, dump them in a party, sacrifice their inherent abilities (lose that +1 merchant gold, food bonus or whatnot) But gain a chance to discover items(mundane, magic, potion, etc...), Champs (for hire or free/prison rescue?), Minor factions, Spells, etc... and also give them a chance to cause havoc as well, release more monsters (not more powerful), incite Brigand raids, hurt faction relations, get captured/hurt/killed etc...

It's probably a bit too much on the abstract side to integrate well with the game. So what you're saying is that your "party" would be unavailable for an undetermined number of turns?

Then maybe return with "stuff" ?

That could actually work with the "dungeons" some want to see.   In game terms it would be coded as a quest but it would be a "longer event".

A completely random outcome of such a dungeon romp would be lame.  So how would the game decide what a "good party" is?
There are no classes in WOM.   Either someone is a channeler and has access to the full range of "your" spells... or not.
Even the "adventurers" with triple attack ability and whatnot can't use any of that until they become channelers... at which point they can just as well use the same mana on spells.

For a virtual questing system you'd first have to come up with some rules...

Lets make a few minor rules. 4 Champs per party max. 1 Champ needs to have essence. Different Champ bonuses provide different quest bonuses.

LOL, more like on assignment. King Arthur says "go find the holy grail", Your sov says "go find me stuff to help the kingdom/empire. Once on assignment, the party will keep going and teleport finds to the Sov/Capital. They will only return when recalled. Recall takes, say, 2 turns.

   Well now you're getting into coding, at which I'm a novice. But at Pen & Papering I'm not so let go with rolls

Say each turn the game rolls a random 1-100 percentile. anything over 90-95% means the party finds something. This roll is modified by +1% for every level a Champ has. A bard, adventurer, or thief would ad a small bonus as well (+5%?)If the modified roll beats the Percentile, They find.... Something... this turn.

What do they find, another roll. 1-100.One again modified

1-50 find something innocuous like 1 Gildar, 1-4 Materials, etc...

51-60 Random mundane item (Military tech tree (minus Highest rank) + Standard base list)

61-70 Random minor Potion/Book

71-80 Random Minor Magic Equip (first set of rings, amulets and bracelets)

81-85 Random +2 to +5 mundane item

86-90 Random Major Potion/Book

91-95 Random Major Magic Equip (2nd set of rings, amulets and bracelets)

96-100 Random Major Weapon or Armor (Highest Military tech and Magic/Legendary)

101+ Dungeons?

Now for Champ Bonuses:  For any roll above 50, Except for adventurers, champ bonuses apply. Adventurer bonus always applies. Bonuses do not stack.

Adventurer : +10 to the "Find" Roll

Merchant : a chunk of Materials, Iron, Crystals, etc...

Bard : Chunk of Diplomatic Capital

Thief : chunk of Gildar

Arcane/Tech researcher : arcane or tech points

Farmer : Find a map to a new fertile land?

Assassin : Find a weapon coating (Vengeance coating etc...)

Can remember the other Champ Bonuses right now.
