[1.08] [1.09] Warhammer research is by-design apparently.

Stardock, Frogboy,

Are you aware that the warhammer now does 5 damage whereas the mace (a lower-tech weapon) does 6 damage?

is this behavior in the latest hot fix/patch of 1.08  intended?

I'd be satisfied with an explanation if it is a bug and target fix ETA...  This would also acknowledge it as a bug.

Could probable reason be that maces take more iron to produce? Thus making maces a cheaper replacement.

But maces themselves doesn't make any sense. They are slower than boar-spears (-0.25) and does less damage (6<8). Generally it looks like somebody is trying to "balance" weapons by looking at each one in isolation instead of actually balancing them against eachother.

The biggest problem is that most weapons for empire and kingdom are same (same stats), but the way they are researched is completely different.

Kingdom gives better and better weapons every few techs, so you would expect those weapons to outperform/replace previous ones, and that getting all those extra techs means something.

On the other hand, empire lumps one set of weapons all at once (for example same tech gives mace and all 3 warhammers!!!), so you would expect that better weapons are stronger, and weaker ones are still useful by being more cost-effective (otherwise why bother giving them to the faction).

These two goals collide with each other, and make proper balancing difficult.

Agree 100% - It sure looks that way or QA is not looking at what changed and why...

We are getting no explanations...

I have not played the Empire side so I have no first hand knowledge but I agree with you on the kingdom side and Maybe JUST MAYBE, SD should actually make slightly different weapons for the two factions so that they can balance things for both factions but then thats just one obvious possible solution, there a likely other solutions... I just want to understand and have it fixed.  AS it is WarHammers for the kingdom factions make no sense...

It was merely a ham-fisted fix to the Hammer of Doom.
Why so much?  Who knows.  The last two patches/fotfixes have been full of typos, wrong tags, and all sorts of sloppy editing.
Too much hotfixing because everyone is screaming fix it!

There hasn't been any real weapon balancing, yet.  It will happen.

Robert - I had hoped you were right but I recieved a PM from Kyro that seemed to allude to that this is the way it was INTENDED to be.

Then 1.09 proved no change....  I think we consumers are doomed to equipment trees that do not improve with research.  As much as I like Elemental, and would like to like SD and support them with additional purchases. this issue is majorly annoying to me.  The only incentive to research warhammer is to get to the unlock for plate armor.  It dumb to have a hurdle there.  SD should just remove the Warhammer from teh Kingdom Equipment tree.  this would make more sense of things.
