1.08 slated for tuesday?

Making use of a lesson learned

By Posted September 9, 2010 12:14:31 PM

I have good news and bad news.  The bad news is that we’re going to have to delay v1.08 for a few days. The internal QA deadline for the test build was this morning and unfortunately it needed a few more hours before being submitted. Rather than even remotely risk something that is going to cause pain (for our players and us) I’m just pushing it until the next QA slot which is next Tuesday.

The good news is that it means that there will be substantially more game play improvements in v1.08 than originally intended because the team’s spell changes, tactical battle tweaks and such weren’t going to make it for v1.08 but will now look like they’re going to make it.

Our schedule to put up more modding support this week, however remains intact so no changes there.

End of quote

absolutely cool with that if it means tactical battles will be fixed!  (honestly I would have been pizzed off if that didnt make 1.08)  definitely worth the delay!

It might be in it.. There is no guarantee tho. :)

And why does your post title have a question mark when you even quote the statement confirming the delay?

Tactical battles won't be in MP for v1.08, that's a feature that will take some time since we did not originally envision tactical battles being in MP but later revised that based on beta tester feedback but that was after a lot of design work had gone into the system (basically, once it was decided that tactical battles wouldn't be real-time it was decided that they would take too long in a multi-player game, while in hindsight, I wish we had just made it an option, we didn't and so it has to be added).

Now, I can say this, if there's even a remote following for Elemental's multiplayer after we put it up, we're willing to commit quite a few resources to it to keep expanding it in updates.  Essentially, we can keep updating different areas of Elemental as long  as there's interest from the community.

I know that personally, I am interested in having magical duels (Channeler vs. Channeler in a tactical battle where they start with nothing but rather must summon or battle each other) but that's something we'll have to look at for the future.

maybe implying that tuesday is a hopeful thing, not a definite?

Do note that it's spell changes and tactical "tweaks". I think you're expecting too much if you think that will fix tactical combat, perhaps we can get a peak? Still, any improvement is welcomed. Looking forward to it.

What do you mean exactly by, "Our schedule to put up more modding support this week remains intact"?  Does this refer to more Workshop options, the new modding website, or both this week?

I read the Sharing Elemental Mods via Impulse post, but it didn't exactly point to any specifics.  In fact, it said the opposite: "After v1.08 goes out the door, the team is going to be looking at ways to make it easier for modders..."

Well, I purchased the LE 3 days ago and I'm interested in seeing more content. You may add that levitating channeler from the intro :)

if the speed of tactical combat is fixed, this game will officially be playable.  so that is what i am hoping for.  i can wait for other balance issues.

While I was hoping for 1.08 for the weekend, better something that is fully tested! What I'm most curious about is how Essence/Mana is going to change, now that I'm used to the individual mana pools of my champions how will play be affected? If Essence becomes on/off what is the advantage to having magical children as opposed to just imbuing more hired guns?

i am guessing that a caster's individual mana will remain in some form so that unlimiting casting during battles will not be an issue.

The original 1.08 preview included some performance issues.  Since I happened to run into the notorious out of memory issue, I am hoping that is still one of issues addressed.  I still truly feel that all of the other issues will be addressed, and the community suggestions and tweaks will improve the game over all.  Thanks for the update Frogboy

   Thanks for the update.  It's nice knowing when to look for the update.

Now about that Age of Wonders coming to Impulse...

Ooooh, sounds like the duels I had while playing Archon/Adept (I'm ancient, I know) on the Apple II.

I really like Elemental, even in the state it is now. There are some great concepts in this game that really shine now and I just can't wait seeing it after a patching polish...

My thanks goes to the whole Stardock dev team

Its good not being left in the dark and informed of what's happening with updates. A lot of other games I've purchased I'd be hanging on forums seeking information and the only information they would spoon feed would be "it'll be done when its done". At least now I know that you guys are working hard to take the game up one notch higher. Thanks very much for the latest 1.08 info! Absolutely love Stardock's customer service in a world where a lot of the services I pay for generally have abysmal customer service whenever I seek help.

Um, I think he said slated for a QA slot on Tuesday. Which means it wouldn't be out until next Thursday, most likely.

Excellent decision.

Oh. Man. That would be so cool. SO COOL!

That being said, I know you guys are focusing on the rest of the gameplay issues (Shards - PLEASE make shards work) first. Looking forward to every patch!

Better done right, than rushed.  I'm good with next week.  Thanks for the update.

High level, hard-to-get tactical spell that locks only channelers units in a parallel combat? It would be a nice way for a magic-heavy Sovereign to tackle on a more "martial" collegue...
