1.08 slated for tuesday?

1.08 slated for tuesday?

Making use of a lesson learned

By Posted September 9, 2010 12:14:31 PM

I have good news and bad news.  The bad news is that we’re going to have to delay v1.08 for a few days. The internal QA deadline for the test build was this morning and unfortunately it needed a few more hours before being submitted. Rather than even remotely risk something that is going to cause pain (for our players and us) I’m just pushing it until the next QA slot which is next Tuesday.

The good news is that it means that there will be substantially more game play improvements in v1.08 than originally intended because the team’s spell changes, tactical battle tweaks and such weren’t going to make it for v1.08 but will now look like they’re going to make it.

Our schedule to put up more modding support this week, however remains intact so no changes there.

End of quote

absolutely cool with that if it means tactical battles will be fixed!  (honestly I would have been pizzed off if that didnt make 1.08)  definitely worth the delay!

My inner nerd wants this game to be great, but it looks like its a few patches away. Had to re-install fallout 3 last night :(

I got Racettear coming this weekend- so I can wait a few days.

Any significant progress on further performance improvements or just another few frames here and there?  Don't get me wrong, I'll take anything, love the game but can't stand playing it.  ;)

I'm NOT looking to start a flame war here and frankly am fine with you guys doing whatever you want with your forum. I'm just noticing a housekeeping issue I guess.

If the intent in not allowing replies to certain threads in the developer forums is to not have comments on the remarks isn't it a bit counter productive to copy the entire post into a new thread and then let people reply? Wouldn't it be easier to keep the topics in one spot rather than essentially cross posting?

Outside of that tid-bit, I'm loving the game and look forward to a few years of fun play!

Thanks for the update, it's always nice to hear feed back directly.

However, why not just stop saying a date until you're 100%?  Say "ASAP" until you know it's in the pipeline and then say "coming soon"... buy yourselves some wriggle room.  I'd rather not know than expect something because you said it'd be here only to find out it'll be at least a week later?  How many empty "we promises" do you get for free before we stop listening?  :)

the thing is, is that the developer journals are on the main page, and people that come for a quick update get inundated by the flames and that's just not good.  taking it to the forums like this allows us to talk about it, and if a post catches on fire then it can be easily put out.

I would assume the patch may not go out on Tuesday, since Tuesday is when they're reviewing it with Quality Assurance, not necessarily releasing it. If there's something wrong with the patch, the release may be pushed back. Now, I don't doubt Stardock's programming abilities or anything, but I'm sure we've all had experiences with Murphy's Law.

Yeah i'd rather it be done right. Take the time you need. There's no rush anymore!

It'll go through QA Tuesday. I expect that it will be more thoroughly tested, and probably at least one Sev2 issue will be found, and will have to be rechecked. Expect it to go live Thursday at the earliest.

No tactical battles?  I know a lot of gaming people.  I don't know one that would purchase a game of this type, build cities, research techs, customize their armies and spells, only to get a pop-up box on the battles outcome.  Not one.  That includes me.  I'm sorry, I've totally given up on this game and SD.  I'm just glad I did not drag all my other friends into this.

If MP people show "interest", THEN you'll put work into MP???  That's the cart before the horse. That's like saying you'll put passenger seats in a car when you see the driver driving around with passengers.  Everyone I know did not purchase this game because of the lack of MP, and nobody I know will purchase it with a lack of tactical battles (which is what games of this type are all about).  I truely, truely don't know what FB or SD were thinking when they released this game.  I wanted so much to have faith, but all this "if, maybe, sort'a, possibly, it won't be fun" used car salesman talk is the last straw for me.

Luckily, the game store I purchased this from has learned all about this game, including this forum/link, and has now changed his refund policy and offered people refunds on Elemental, so I/they don't have to jump through SD hoops to get my/our money back.  THAT is how upset the community (even gamestore owners) are about this "we don't think it will be fun if we put <insert most basic game functions> in)" . . .

I've unistalled the game.  Got my refund.  I'm gone except to say "What a huge disapointment".

on the other hand,  I guess each person who makes a return on the game because of poor or incomplete or missing MP makes MP slightly more important? iono. If the only people who stay and play the game are SP people then MP will always suck forever because they already left. Which sort of "justifies" SD not investing heavily in MP because no one used it anyway :/

This game will eventually be amazing, I would rather spend the money on a game that I know will be worked on for years to come, Than the typical game that gets released has one patch and then is forgotten about for the next project.

it's got major flaws at this time, eventually they will be fixed and I think your taking the quote from multilayer a little out of context. If they werent going to work on it at all it wouldn't be in the game, at all. He is basically saying the resources spent on it in the future will depend on the popularity of the feature.

This, my friend is development 101.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out .....

Hmmm I did not interpret what Brad said the same way purple paladin did.. I took it  to mean tactical MP is coming just not with 1.08.. The differing modes of tactical mp was what I took as something for the future.. But I could be wrong. ^_^

Good decision on the push.  Kudos to you Stardock for sticking to a good QA policy (no new deployments on Friday).

so you've decided to get a refund based soley on the fact that MP tactical battles won't be in patch 1.08?  that's pretty weak.  you did read the part where he said that tactical battles will definitely be put in for mutliplayer right?  just trying to understand how you came to this.

i seemed to remember some stardock peep somewhere mentioning that they wanted these things discussed in other forums instead of the journals as stmorpheous implied.

next: not belittling your complaints, they are serious and i fully understand them.  just shorting your post  for repost.

No tactical battles?  [{blah blah anger blah threats blah blah blah.}  paraphrased]

End of PurplePaladin's quote

but he said no mp tactical for 1.08...not no mp tactical ever.

not that i am defending stardock for this sort of stuff, but things are as they are and they will not change overnight.  nothing to do but suggest improvements, beta-test (anyone who denies this is still a beta, i will flame to hell and back), and HOPE that we get our moneys worth when all is said and done.

Just to be clear, tactical battles *are* coming to MP. That won't be immediate with 1.08, but it's not a "maybe." Brad's said straight up they're going to get that back in after the necessary QA work is done (it needs to be tested and an option hooked up, and I think we can all agree at this point that testing stuff is good).

In terms of other work, well MP gets the benefit of everything done to improve the SP game. Extra stuff for MP depends on demand... which makes sense, doesn't it? If it turns out that nobody is bothering to play MP, why devote a ton of time to it?

Are you going to be adding a button to disable magic in auto resolved battles? It's a real pain to have your sovereign use mana on a really easy battle.

Thanks

Wow, you are so up and down on your posts...he did say they were comming just that they were not originally planned for MP so they would take time.  Drama much?

Sounds good to me always better to wait than to rush. -- quick question for Stardock - with up to 16?  players in multiplayer -  if there is a tactical battle between player 1 and 2 for instance.  will players  3,4,5,6,7, and 8 be able to play manage their kingdom - or have separate second tactical battles running at the same time? Or, will it be a matter of resolving each tactical battle one after another?  obviously all players will have to wait until all tactical battles are resolved until the next turn can be played.

Oh and buy the way- Frogboy - I got my Limited edition Elemental game box in the mail yesterday (i'm in australia) and I was very impressed by the quality of the presentation of the entire package and contents.  Thanks very much as IMO it was well above the normal quality for limited edition content.

So with all this Elemental attention in hand, does this mean Demigod is Dead?  All the same questions and all the same requests are being asked here for Elemental as they were for Demigod, but Demigod has still not been finished and all the advertised features have not been implemented!

Demigod still needs it's promised DLC!

example: what ever happend to our paid mycolors Demigod theme?! It took forever for the SofSE theme to come out....Elemental should wait!!!

Didn't Stardock have a falling out with Demigod's developers?

Best regards,
Steven.

I believe demigod isn't developed by Stardock, so them working on elemental has no effect on whether demigod is or isn't dead.

The developer for Demigod is Gas Powered Games. The publisher is Stardock.

To paraphrase another one of my favourite game designers, Johan Andersson over at Paradox:

A patch is never late nor early, it comes out exactly when Brad means it to!
