[Idea] Graphic overhaul mod

I know the Stardock team tried to create a unique art style, but it fell flat on its face and looks really bland and cartoony (not attacking the game here, I'm just commenting on the art). I'm no modder, but what if someone could create a graphical overhaul mod that changes and replaces textures that look better, grittier, and more realistic? It would do wonders for the game and make it more pleasing to the eye.

I guess thats a matter of taste?

I  agree with rune..  its a matter of taste..

I actually like the art style..

However I do want the game environments to vary more based on geography/weather.. and to be more varied but I suspect some of this will come in time...

True, but I am sure there are MANY people who would agree with me on this one.

and just as likely many who don't ... In the end if for what ever reason a graphic over haul is considered /done I am not against it .. I just do not think we need one..

I like it as is, not as cartoon as say Armoured Princess, and the style is very good IMHO for the setting.

But if you want to Go For It, the skins are easily changed, and you can have what ever you want.

I was thinking of a few of the undead to drop in here and there, but that is the beauty if you do not like it, change it.

But I think it is a bit wrong, and harsh to say the art fell flat, in screen shoots it looks a bit dull, but playing the game it works for me.

So GL with your Mod, but please do not try and talk for all the folks here, you will always be wrong.

I think it could be refined and enhanced to draw out the unique properties but I don't think it's bad or cartoony or that the style itself is bad.

I like the art style as well.  I find I like it much more with the outlines turned off.

Perhaps the next poll could be to see how many people like the art style??

I love the 2d art ALOT and i like how its similar to the game, and i like the color. But come on guys WE ALL KNOW the faces look like crap and so does the armor. I mean the helmets look like biker helmets.

And i would welcome more artists to mod this game.

Turning off the outlines pretty much "fixed" the artstyle for me, absolutely beautiful.

i love this style

new elements would be nice, but i don't need other style

Well, apparently none of them are to be found but in theory, yes - there could be MANY. = )

I like the current style but wish it was less "natural" looking and more iconified so the terrain type of a square would be easier to see.
Especially on the cloth map where there is only a rather vague representation of forest/hill/impassable tiles.

It's already too artsy and pretty and that is getting in the way of gameplay.

I like the art too. But we all know that the problem you named isn't a art style problem but just an item design one. I'm pretty sure they can fit in more intimidating and better fullface helmets that keep to the same art style. Still "cartoony" and smooth, just covers up the face entirely. I'm also pretty sure the art style isn't keeping them from adding full boots to the armor instead of letting the greaves just end at the ankle. Showing off some skin and a tiny out of place shoe.

Hopefully we'll get more options to be able to create armor that looks more like the concept art and less like placeholders by 1.3

It is....also, just take a look at the EWoM reviews. Some of the reviewers loved the art style, while some others hated it.

Well I guess I'm with GeneralEtrius on this one.  Icecrown is doing a great job with the spell affects and hopefully someone artistic will look at improving other bits.

I like the art style BUT I do think a darker, more realistic style would be interesting as an option.  I have not looked into any of the graphic files but know most components can be changed but I never really considered actually changing the map tiles.   That may be kind of fun if possible.

Yeah, that pretty much defines "taste."  Personally, I love the curent art style.  Based upon a lot of the commentary in the various forums, there are MANY people who agree that it is excellent and full of flavor.

Knock yourself out, though.  Good luck.

Has anyone taken peek at the Gfx pics. There are some really good ones in there I will be using for quest pics.
