Worth $50?
I've played the 1.0 version and its clearly a 20 - 30 game at that level. What about 1.07 is that worth $50?
I have a feeling elemental will fizzle quickly like demigod and in a few months I'll be able to get it for $20

1.07 is certainly not worth $50.00 in its current iteration, but that is left to one's own personal tastes as I'm sure some here would disagree with me. I am having more enjoyable gaming sessions with Elemental as the patches progress.
I seem to be in the minority, but I love the game.
It had issues but there are some great ideas and its fun as heck to play for me personally.
Its been patched up nicely so far and hopefully the next ones work at upgrading the AI, thats my only issue now that the FPS has been improved.
Alot of people dont seem to like the game but to me its been surprisingly addicting. AI could be alot better and the launch was bad, but other then that I cant stop playing the game. Stardock said they will work on the game for hte next year to so things are only going to get better.
I am glad I gave this game a chance, but I relize not everyone has the same taste or opinion in games, buy at your own risk I guess.
I would wait and see, if i knew better i wouldnt bought this for 49.99.
In 6 months to a year, maybe.
As others have said, personal taste. There's no hiding what the issues are, even the CEO admits to it. So it's definitely caveat emptor at this point.
With that said, even with it's flaws, some people are having fun with this game. Personally, I have more regret in the $60 that I spent on Starcraft II than what I paid for Elemental. I've had no interest in picking SC2 back up once I completed the campaign. It's nothing against the game, it's well polished, made me laugh and have fun but it's not my type of game. I knew that going in but I took the risk hoping that I'd get hooked and spend a lot of time with multiplayer. Just didn't happen. So for myself, I find Elemental to be a better value just because it's my type of game, even with it's flaws.
The other thing though is that I pre-ordered this back in February. So my $50 was spent a long time ago. It's hard to say if I would have felt differently had I went to Gamestop and bought the game when it came out - the outlay of cash fresh in my mind. My experience was also tempered with the fact that I've seen this game in it's early stages and seen it evolve. It was pretty horrible back then so comparatively, it's a huge improvement over my initial experiences with the game. Having played it a few weeks before it came out, I also knew what to expect.
I guess the most telling answer is that I work with a huge MoM fan (as it turns out, I didn't know). When I had posted about this game on Facebook, he started asking a lot of questions and wanted to know how it compared to MoM. I was extremely hesitant in recommending it initially - mainly cause from his enthusiasm I wasn't sure this was going to be what he expected. After the launch and everything that happened I pretty much told him to wait for a few months.
Not worth it in my opinion. It might be better in 4 months, but I'm pretty disappointed.
Well - since I paid $100 and am happy, 50 seems a snip (but then I did get the LE and postage to the back of beyond).
So we just going to keep making threads saying the same thing ver and over again or are we going to start looking at ways to fix it??
Honestly this game flew under my radar until about two-three weeks ago, and I bought it on release day. I think it has been worth every cent I paid for it, and it has even more potential under the hood. Sure it has its flaws, but it has two things in its corner. For starters the game is getting massive support from the developers, and I am seeing a lot of fast turnaround on patches, and those patches incorporating changes demanded by the customers. In my many moons of game playing that is extremely rare to see, and I have only known Paradox, and Stardock to act in that manner. The second (and most important) is that it is damn addicting. I love 4x games, but some grab me more than others, and even with its substantial flaws Elemental has me keep playing it instead of doing more important things.
Naturally your mileage will vary, and some people are very angry with what they got. Personally I can't help but wonder if they had become so emotionally invested with the game that every flaw is glaring and huge in their eyes since it wasn't what they expected. Honestly I see a lot of bitterness, so if you're going to listen to arguments against it try to find the people out there who are constructively criticizing and go from there. Ultimately maybe I like it because I went in with no predetermined expectations of what the game was supposed to be other than a fantasy turn based 4x lol. I give it the thumbs up, but if you're squeamish I recommend lurking the forums for a few patches and then deciding.
No, save your money for when Civ V comes out later this month. That game is far more likely to have been tested and finished.
No, if I could get my money back for Elemental I would. There is just no way that this game is worth $50 at this point. Wait and buy the fixed, final version at bargain bin prices.
i would say its worth 50$ you will get alot of upgrades and the first expansion pack free
Tbh, I find it for what we get overpriced. Even considering it runs stable and smooth. Way too less content for that money IMO.
Short answer is no.
This game was thrown out the door in a pre-beta state of development.
I made the mistake of purchasing it on release day. Serves me right for believing the hype.
The gameplay could be compared to having carnel knowledge of a dead sheep.
Depends what you want to play and feel like. And what your expectations were and how you felt they were delivered =O
For me it was the right timing and worth 36 euros =D
I did the beta for month, and paid long ago. I already didn't regret it during the beta and to me, release date didn't mean much except more features. I know it'll keep improving like it did past months and I'm in no hurry. All I hope is MP will be operational soon, so that I can convince some friends and relatives to get it, before civ 5 gets them whole ![]()
Not now, IMO.
It really just doesn't compare to what most games of this price tag has to offer. Even if you, like me, love the genre.
Just wait.
Yeah right, when HoI3 came out and made a mess, they said the samnthing and we have to pay more. Samn goes for alot of games, i wouldnt trust that unless you know you got it in your hands. If they do, that would be really nice, but i doubt it.
could be. it does need some love though, the bugs are still very much alive, tragically. the gameplay could use a bit of tuning, balance is a bit off (infinite jewelry, unit stacks, useless champions, magic lackluster) give it a month perhaps if you aren't too keen on playing it right now. stardock are bros, though. they'll get it sorted, be patient.
Stardock isn't Paradox. Though I understand the trouble of developers or publishers of niche games. The games need to be released early to recover some of the expenses of the development, and to create the funds for continued development. Games like HoI3 and Elemental not only don't sell a million copies in the first week, but they also need more on-going development and care than many of the blockbuster hits that are "done" and may only need some bug fixing, but no balancing. HoI3 or Elemental are also much more complex than a straight forward shooter.
I think Elemental is worth the $50 price tag if someone is in for the long run. If you only want to play right now while waiting for another game, then no, there are probably better choices. But if you plan on sticking with the game, you'll be treated with on-going patches and content updates.
I would wait. Some are saying that it will be worth it in the long run. If that's the case then why not wait until the game is improved? The game is not getting any more expensive than it is today.
Wait for Civ 5 and check back in a few months. That's what I would have done if I hadn't preordered already.
That the problems, alot of companies out there being greedy and not working with fans or keeping them happy. Esp improving their reputations. The reasons i brought up others like HoI3, etcs. They did the samn thing and pissed off alot of customers, i would never buy expansions or anything that is related to HoI Series. Alot of games made Paradox look bad!
If they make a different games that run on EWoM's engine, like AoW or LoM. Then maybe worth buying the expansions.
I would wait as well. If you look at https://www.elementalgame.com/journals almost half thinks the game is a disappointment.
My largest surprise was the lack of anything that resembles a feasible campaign. We didn't have access to it in the beta, because they wanted to unveil it at release. Well, it was silly how short it was. Two hours, maybe. Possibly it was my fault for actually expecting a fun, playable campaign. Not half a custom scenario.
I agree with Heavenfall. Considering there is currently no multiplayer, the weak campaign is almost mind boggling. I think the 're-release' idea is a good one and I'd take a peak Q1 2011 to see if this game is shored up.
My thoughts are it really does need a lot of work. As others have stated, there is definitely some good ideas here, but they need SERIOUS attention and in some respects to be completely redone before we have a game that is worthy of Stardock. It's basically a hot mess at the moment and is probably in the 10-20 dollar value range IMHO.
I agree with almost everyone here...really disappointed currently in the purchase. If I could refund I would, I feel pretty taken. If it says anything I started a new Space Empires 5 game since this has been released.
