Any chance to create two "sub Mod" sections?

Hi everyone,

Not being a modder, I'd love to see two sub-forums under the Mod category that is broken down somewhere along the lines of "Finished Mods" and "Proposed/WIP Mods"

I say this because I'm lazy and am tired of opening threads with interesting Mod titles only to find that at the moment it's just a thought in someone's head that may or may not ever get done.

This way I could simply open the ones I know are completed and decide then if I want to d/l it.

Good, bad, incredibly newby idea?  ;)

Don't think its necessary yet, there aren't that many mods as most of us are waiting for stardock to finalize the game mechanics.

first off, love your work Heavenfall.

Second, that's kind of my point, let's do it now before it's necessary when everyone goes hog wild and starts creating or discussing mods. Heck, even I've thought about getting into it.   :S

I'd support that.

There are actually a few finished mods around but it's pretty hard to find them in this unsorted forum. Besides you sometimes can't tell if it's a WIP or a REL or no mod at all since not everybody puts those nice and nifty [WIP], [REL] or [IDEA] tags in their title.

I must agree with the OP about the need of subforums. "In progress Mods", "Finished Mods", "Resources"...

I would rather see those stay together.  If it were to be separated, I would like to see REL/WIP in one forum and SUPPORT/HELP in another forum.

Really only needs a bit of a generally accepted labeling system. (and a better one than now = )
The problem is that the forum search apparently uses Google and that's not good at finding stuff with brackets. It would only look for "mod" which is far too ambiguous to return anything useful.

Searchable terms must be more uniqe than that and alphanumeric.
Those would then work with the forum search - or from the outside with a generic google search.

[EMOD] Blah v1.2

for usable and more or less working mods.
That (and the tutorial stickies) would be all "users" ever need to care about.
It must be as simple as that because "users" are often enough completely clueless (and unwilling to learn) about any sort of labeling system that goes beyond that.

I look for mods and I see: THIS is a mod. I happy.

[ELIB] Blah v1.2

for libraries because there may be some when scripting becomes a real possibility.

[EWIP] Work-in-progress doesn't really mean anything. Could be anything between a vague pipe dream and a beta version.

Still useful for development threads because it signifies an actual project instead of random musing or tinkering.

[EINFO]  That would be useful for when you figure out another tricky bit about the engine or a cool way to make a unit do the impossible...

I don't think that an "ideas" tag would be overly useful. Usually the people with ideas are the modders and they are typically too busy creating or adding to their mods. Normal text in the subject should be sufficient. The real nutcase modders live in the modding forum anyway so there's no danger of a good idea vanishing unseen. =P

Separate forums just add more overhead and work for everyone. If "users" complain that they have to scroll down a page or two for finding a mod - cry me a river. =P
When the forum would be searchable for such unique terms, it wouldn't be a problem at all...

I like Robert's suggestion.  Makes the most sense.  Perhaps Robert would like to re-post his ideas in a new thread and we can ask for them to be stickied.

We don't really need more forums. What we need is the finalized ingame Mod Library (meaning, being able to submit mods and get them approved) ;) The forums can stay for help/discussion/WIP, and you'd always be able to find release mods through the library, then go to the forums and find the thread with its name.

I'd guess that at some point we'll see something like this in addition to the ingame mod library.  Then the forums would be just for WIP and discussion of mods . . not the mods themselves.  (Sins maps: https://www.wincustomize.com/explore/sins_maps )

Or perhaps like galciv: http://library.galciv2.com/index.aspx

Yah, possibly. Pretty likely, actually.

But "Elemental Modding" is so new and unfinished that I wouldn't expect anything as spiffy anytime soon. =P

I'd prefer more intuitive tags myself but you simply cannot Google search for "mod" in a modding forum...

It's more like the least undesirable option - but as long as it works with the search engine, the rest can be worked around.

Then at least people looking for mods could get a list of threads with "EMOD" in the title and well... get a list of "useable" mods.

And if you faintly remember someone posting some "Einfo" about that tricky bit you're gnawing on, there would be a chance to find it. Search engines are only as good as the unique tags you give them to work with.
