Well, releasing "yet another small fix" to testers is different from releasing a real patch to the public.
If an unforseen side effect nukes everyone's savegames, so what. *shrug*
You need to be a bit more thorough with customers. =P
I'm a spoiled person who thinks that 60+fps should be standard for gaming. I absolutely admit that. I think a lot of people don't notice frame rate at all.
"Static" stuff like buildings sound like nothing much for a 3D game but the GalCivs have always been terrible at displaying large amounts of "custom" ships with lots of parts. And it's probably a safe bet that this game uses a similiar technique.
Here, too, all buildings are assembled from elements, just like the ships in GC.
What would help is when a modder would take the time to replace the vanilla models with super simple elements. No animations, no people standing around waving, no smoke comign from chimneys... more or less just "icons" instead of fully featured (and pretty!) 3D models that one can zoom in on reeeeeally far.
Effectively, that's what LODs are for and as far as I heard, these are in the game, they work, but they aren't triggered soon enough, so they just don't take effect. I would guess that this is one of the features of the next patch so FPS should do a nice jump upwards.
